[OT?] LotR Exhibition

An exhibition on the LotR movies is starting this Tuesday at the Science Museum in London. The exhibition runs until 11 January when it will be going to Boston, USA. After that, it's due to go to Singapore and Sydney.

The exhibition features arms, armour, jewellery (including the One Ring), costumes, prosthetics, the opportunity to be digitally made to look like a hobbit and details of how the FX were done from FotR and TTT.

Here's the link.

I've already purchased my ticket. :)

Please keep this thread bumped by posting comments, questions etc.

Mods: Please don't move this thread to another forum (e.g. Movies). Exhibitions with fantasy themes are very rare and I'm worried that some board members will miss it if this thread goes elsewhere. Thanks. ;)

That isn't the point.

The whole point of having different forums is to let the readers decide what they want. It is not to empower the posters to force advertising material about a non-RPG book or movie onto readers who are interested in discussing RPGs in general.

Put it where it belongs. The people who want it will find it there. Do not allow General RPG Discussion to become a rag-bag of unclassified blurb.

Agback

Zander, threads need to go in the correct forum, especially with the reduction in first-page threads from 40 to 25. We'll be staying fairly stringent in this regard for the immediate future.

In this case, they can't decide because they don't know it's out there to look for in the first place. In other words, you can't know if you want something if you don't know it exists or is likely to exist. Fantasy-themed exhibitions are very rare (I know of only one other anywhere in the world in 20 years' of gaming), so there's virtually no chance of anyone checking the books/movies forum on the off-chance that it mentions a fantasy exhibition. What's the likelihood of that?

I didn't "force" anything on anyone. I didn't even trick anyone. My post was (and is at the time of writing) clearly labelled for what it was. I should also like to point out that I have no connection whatsoever with the Science Museum, the exhibition organisers or anyone connected with the movies or the Tolkien estate. I do not benefit in any way from more people going to see the exhibition. My post was purely to inform fellow EN Worlders, not to advertise or plug the exhibition.

Piratecat,

Sometimes you have to know when to bend the rules for the greater good. That's the difference between LN and CG. I'm more nearly CG (or NG), I guess.

I suppose to punish me for replying to Agback's post and yours, you're going to move this thread to Meta. [sarcasm]After all, that's where it now belongs.[/sarcasm]

If this is the thanks I get for trying to help fellow gamers, it makes me wonder why I bother.

Xander - when have you booked your ticket for?
Hi Matt ;)
Fri, 10 Oct, 7pm.
I would have gone at the weekend, but it's £2 more on Sat & Sun. Weekdays (incl. Fri) it's £10 - which seems quite a bit to me as it is. £12 is too much for an exhibition in my book. Fri is late night; it closes at 9pm.

Let me know if you can make it. Maybe we can grab a bite to eat afterwards.
