Hi

Mr Jackson in an interview regarding the film being nominated
13 times, goes on to say he is adding 30 mins to the DVD
and also busy on pre production for TTT :)

Check out the link and have fun :)

Damn i would of rather it be 4 1/2 hours but i guess
the 30 mins would still be cool...

He also goes on to say that now he is competing against the success of the first film (which is good in my eyes as it makes them strive to make them even more kick a$$ than the first)
which i am sure they will be :)

Damn i cant wait for the next two films :)

Don't forget, all three films were filmed at once, so the only thing he can do to compete against the success of the prior films is in special effects and editing.

1/2 hour, huh? I've been slow to jump on the DVD bandwagon, but this'll probably take me over the edge...

ONLY thirty minutes...

I had to pee half way through each time I saw it. An additional 30 minutes would have forced my, uh...hand?

Seriously, thirty additional minutes is just enough time to add Galadriel's gifts plus what else?

More on Frodo leaving the Shire? (a better intro to Merry and Pippin)

More about how Gandalf escapes Orthanc and calls Gwaihir?

Anduril reforged?

I can't wait. The sooner, the better. :)

wandering monster- the sooner the better

I remember reading that the DVD is coming out in may, but the director's cut isn't coming out til november...

That blows. That emans that all the Die hard fans will get the DVD in may (and prolly almost everyone else) and then in Nov, when the added scenes come out, you wil have to spend another 35 bucks or so to get teh director's cut.

Commercialism blows.- I thought he was making this movie for the little people (not the hobbits) and so why the double release?

"He" (I assume you mean Peter Jackson) doesn't control the release dates or format of the DVD releases. *shrug* That's up to the distribution company.

The super-duper Special Edition is supposed to be a 4-disk set. It wouldn't suprise me if it is more expensive than the movie only version coming out. This way they can get everybody - the people that only are interested in the movie and the uber-geeks (like me) who want 4 dvds worth of stuff! If you figure 1 disc for the movie, that leaves 3 full discs worth of extra material: behind the scenes, makings of, interviews, possible detailed comparisions of film to book, etc. I just get giddy thinking about it. I'm also very happy that they (the powers that be) announced both the movie only and the 4 disk set at the same time. It really angers me when I run out to buy a DVD ASAP only to have them reissue a Special Edition later. I say thanks to the studio for the heads up!

If the special edition is 4 discs, I think one disc will have the theatre version of the movie and another disc will have the director's cut.

That'd be good. I don't like watching cut scenes apart from the movie, as they lack context. (I.E. You know to know at what precise point in the movie this scene is supposed to take place) Then again, I also like to see the movie as it was in the theatre. Providing 2 DVD's, 1 for the theatre version and 1 for the directors cut, would be the best of both worlds.

And personally, I think to make 2 versions is a good decision. Does anyone else want to wait til November before they can get Lord of the Rings on DVD? I know I don't! So I'll buy the regular version in May, and when the special edition comes out in November I'll buy that, and give away the one I bought in May to a relative like my brother or my nieces. It's not really a big deal. (Like when I got the Star Wars Special Edition set. I already had the first Star Wars movie, so I just gave that movie to my nieces)

meh. Two versions? Try waiting until after all three films are out. Can you say 'Boxed Set' boys and girls? And how about 'Limited Edition Director's Cut Boxed Set'? :D

Yyyyyeah.

Hey, the movie itself is as it should be. So what if New Line tries to hustle for every buck they can get? The movie's great. They didn't cut things down or have Aerosmith do a radio-friendly ballad or do ANY NUMBER of things TO THE FILM that would have made the movie more marketable. They could have. They didn't.

We got the movie as it deserved to be made. Stop complaining about little things.
