[OT] LOTR Sword replicas

I've never been big on this type of stuff, but lately I've been kind of obsessing about getting either the Glamdring or Narsil replicas...

Has anone here bought either of these swords? How are they, quality-wise? Reasonably close to the ads, or are we talking the difference between a McDonalds hamburger and its picture on the menu? ;)

I recently aquired a "sting" Replica sword.

and i couldnt be happier with it. its a balanced weapon , that i could easily see in the hands of a warrior in battle. and artistically its a beautifull piece.

I have seen all the swords on display at a local store and they do look even better (and bigger!) than the Ad displays.

my recomendation ?

they are well worth the price you are paying and they look very nice hanging on the wall.

a good friend has Sting , but i really didn't get to play around with it too much! :D it looked great and was balanced and heavy, what i imagine a real sword must be like. (real, as in - hacking up kobolds real, ya know? :p )

mmu1, you may want to see if anyone you know or even an RPG store has one. (i happened to be in a store when they recieved a Glamdring, but it was a special order for a customer, they wouldn't let me swing it :( )

I've got the Witchking and Narsil. I prefer Narsil, but I'm biased because when I saw the movie I just had to have it. The Witchking is a Bastard Sword IMO, it even has grips for both hands.

Narsil only has a grip for one but with the extended handle you can use two and the picture I saw had Elendil using two hands. It was probably meant to be a long sword but it's easier to use two handed, my replica is pretty well balanced.

Hope this helps. I got mine off of eBay. The auctions seem to be cheaper then the cataloges.

Both are pretty good quality. But they are not full tang, in fact my Witchking is a rat tail and the handle is slightly lose because I have to tighten it but then again I don't really plan on going into battle with it. I'll use Narsil for that. ;) Afterall it's so sharp that it cut the finger off the greatest Maiar in ME. :D Note: None of the swords are acutally sharp.

My room-mate has Sting, Witchking, Glamdring, and Narsil, as well as Gimli's Axe which is from the Noble Collection (it's not as good as the swords IMO).

My next purchase is going to be the Ringwraith's Sword, this is a different one from the Witchking's. Also United Cutlery is going to release Aragorn's Ranger Sword and Arwen's Sword. I'm sure as more movies come out they will release more swords. I wonder if they'll make 9 different swords for each Nazgul? I bet they also will make the appearently twin swords that Legolas will use in LotR: TT.

That's probably as good a definition as you can find of D&D's bastard ("hand-and-a-half") sword. ;)

Bud K has the best prices I've seen so far on the LotR replica swords.

I just want to stress these are not swords meant to use. These are wall hangers. They are heavier than a real sword. They are stainless steel. And most importantly they are not constructed to survive the rigors of combat. If you did any steel on steel sparing these swords would most likely not survive. Flying pieces could injure someone. Plus throwing 200 - 300 bucks out the window.

There are a group of people at http://swordforum.com who are trying to find out if they can get rights to make real replicas that are useable. There is a inspired piece by Angus Trim that looks similar to Striders ranger sword, called the Ranger. This runs over $500 bucks and all reports are very favorable on it. Many people are requesting similar replicas but nothing has been done yet.

Arwens sword is available for pre order now.

Just remember wall hangers ar for just that. I have sting and it is great. I plan to get a usable replica in the near future but this will be custom made and cost big bucks.

I'm gonna get Arwen's sword... I already have the Witchking sword (Black blade was too cool to pass up) and Sting (which, of all the reproductions, is the ONLY one that even MIGHT have a passable tang... the balance seems a little handle heavy to have just a rattail tang... but maybe its something else.) After that, I'll probably stop, unless they offer one of two things

Legolas' knives or swords (whatever you wanna call 'em), OR...

If they wanna sell another one... make those cool curved swords the elven army uses... the ones with like a 2 foot blade and a 2 foot handle, that they swing underhanded? THAT would be a conversation piece.
