[OT] Monte Cook Finishes Lego Star Destoyer

The SD was impressive enough, but that link to the comparative starships ate my entire evening. I thought the Battlestar Galactica was bigger than that!

It ate my entire evening too - and then I found out you could click and drag the ships around, and pretend like they were having little battles!! It's gonna eat my whole weekend! :D

"It took about six weeks, but I only worked on it about one to two days a week, for a few hours at a time."

Six weeks? My God, Monte is really dense.

It took me and two friends only one day.

And yes, it is fragile.... one reason are the magnets holding most of the ship together.

Carl, before you start calling anyone "Dense" (a really harsh word, if you ask me), count the man-hours.

Three people, working for (what? twelve hours?) equals 36 man-hours.

Monte spent a average of 4.5 hours per week, ("One or two days per week, for a few hours at a time, for six weeks"), which equals 27 hours.

So even if it only took 8 hours for your model to be built, It averages out about the same. :)

Especially when you consider the extra amount of time consumed when stopping and restarting a project. There can be cleaning up the area, remembering what you were doing when you stopped and just getting into the right frame of mind to get into the groove. I still think it is way cool.

I don't know how many times I have dropped blatent hints to wife wife for similar presents, and she never gets the clue (although I still enjoy her gifts).

It's neat, but it's not art. I mean, come on, it came designed to do that, with an instruction manual of how to put it together. Where's the challenge, the artistry?

I've seen much more impressive ones where somebody assembled something completely new and not-in-the-book out of Legos. Few years back, somebody made a life-sized Lego model of a car.

yeah but a car can't make that jump into hyperspace

Cool

Heya:

Star Wars LEGOS are always cool. I'm tempted to get that Star Destroyer but there's a distinct lack of room at my place. Instead, I've gotten several of the little "mini-dioramas". For example, I have the little "Luke Gets Escorted By A Storm Trooper And An Imperial To Meet With Vader Before Being Taken Up To See The Emperor On The Second Death Star". Very cool. Luke's right "hand" is black, his outfit is the black jumpsuit thing he wore in the movie, and he's not smiling. The Imperial officer is smiling, which is good, but when you take the helmet off of the 'Trooper, he's got no face, which is not so good.

Take care,
Dreeble

Man, I used to play the Star Wars RPG using LEGO as miniatures. It was great; we could make up our own little settings.

I was never able to show how big a Star Destroyer was in comparison to their ships, however. I might just have to buy this in order to do that.

Imagine the look on the faces of the players when they see you reveal it: "Suddenly, your ship is jerked out of hyperspace. Out the windows, you see... [pause to run downstairs] THIS." Sweet muppets, that would be nice.

Stats

Imperial Star Destroyer

Over 37 inches long

3,104 pieces

weight (whole package) - about 19 lbs

manual weight - 3 lbs.

manual dimensions - .5in x 12in x 16 in

Comes with a mini 'Rebel Blockade Runner'. Which looks to be pretty close to scale...

:mad:and I really wish I had the room to put it together!!!:(

Now I do have room for these:

Who to con to get them is another matter though.
