[OT]Morrowind - Elder Scrolls III

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp EBGames.com is still stating that they're shipping Neverwinter Nights out on June 18th (so it would hit the stores one or two days later). Hmm...

Just a minor comment, there are no drow. They are called "dark elves" and if you asked the wisest learned sage of the Elder Scroll worlds about what is a drow, he would probably answer you that it's "word" spelt backward. Also they don't worship spiders.

Hurm, due to our proximity to the release date, I am confident that Neverwinter nights will be out promptly on time.

(think positive thoughts guys!) :D

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp And hopefully, whatever necessary patch will be out soon thereafter. ;)

Heh, sorry G. But Neverwinter will most likely be released September as Bioware has only just begun their beta tests. A player in my campaign knows the lead programmer for Neverwiner Nights because they attend the same Tae Kwon Do classes. Sometimes it sucks to be on the inside track...

It seems strange to me, but at E3 Bob McCabe said , only a few breaths apart, that Beta is just starting, and that he expects it to go gold in mid-June, release at the end of June.

*shrug* Just going by what I read in an interview.

Actually, that's not too bad. Their projected release date is "Summer 2002", so September is only a month or so behind. In the PC games industry, that's practically right on time.

Here in Alberta (home of the Biowarians), September is a part of summer, in spirit if not fact, trust me. :)

Actually, summer officially doesn't end until Sept. 20, right?

Edit: Oh, yeah, and there is no release date, though they might share one with us once it goes gold, but I'm not holding my breath . To speak in such a manner on the NWN boards is to have your thread locked, and to be visisted by large men in suits in the middle of the night.

NWN promises some excellent multiplayer gaming. I can't wait.

I doubt though, that it will hold a tee to Morrowind in the single player arena. The gameworld is huge, and everything has been placed carefully by hand, something that is obvious when you play, because you never get the feeling of "been there, done that" when wandering around. That's one thing that worries me about the tile-based NWN.

The openness of the game is both wonderful and a weak point. Though after playing for about 8 hours, I'm beginining to get a hint of the underlying story and politics of the world, and it really makes me want to play.

Time to take a break from the everyday and get into gaming mode. Its been a long time since I've done that.

I think Morrowind is great. The immersion in the game world is really what does it for me - the size, the freeform ability to make any class, the massive number of quests, guilds, and factions.

Also, I love the editor. Just about every time I play, I tweak something in the editor first. Currently I'm running on 12 skill increases instead of 10 per level, and a slower skill progression in all skills, especially combat skills, because I found that leveling was a bit too fast and I would be a super-character long before I finished the main quest if I did all of the side-quests that I like to do. So I slowed it down a bit. Also, the two mods that change the NPCs to make them more individualized are great.

Of couse, I also am looking forward to NWN a great deal. But MW is great too.

If NWN is as good in multiplayer as MW is in single player, I'll be very, very happy.

So they're expecting less than a month of beta-testing before they go gold?

Yikes! That seems an awfully short amount of time to me. But hey, they're the ones in charge, so we'll see.

While the environment may be immersive in MW, the world isn't very responsive to you, and I don't feel like I'm part of it. Yes, there are lots of Guilds but I became the head of the Wizard's Guild and nothing's really changed. Seems odd. It is a good game though, but I don't think it's fair comparing it to NWN.

NWN has been designed to be an easy to use engine for taking 3E from the tabletop to the computer. Because of this, the editor will be designed to be more user friendly (and thus less powerful) than others. They use tiles because tiles are easier to place and design new worlds with, but at the same time look less impressive.

Anyway, NWN and MW are apples and oranges in my mind.
