Yes, there are lots of Guilds but I became the head of the Wizard's Guild and nothing's really changed. Seems odd. It is a good game though, but I don't think it's fair comparing it to NWN.
I have to agree, here. I really like Morrowind, but it has it share of faults. In some ways, the game truly lacks verisimilitude, and in other ways, it has it in spades.
One the one hand, you have things like the mind-linked guards, who know of your transgressions the moment you arrive, regardless of how far you've come in mere seconds. You have ability to ransack a town right under their noses (and I'm not talking sneak-theif here...I'm talking home invasion. Walk in, wave at the owner, and then go into their bedroom, close the door and loot them blind. Repeat throughout town). The combat system could use some serious work. How harmed is your opponent? Easy, alive or dead.
On the other hand, you have well-executed factions, enjoyable quests, and a feeling of freedom that is a refershing change from other games. Feel like exploring? Go ahead. Not only are you allowed...the game REWARDS such behavior. The excitement of finding a shipwreck well off the beaten path, or a hidden Kwamma Egg Hive is great. The variety of the quests is also a lot of fun. The open-ended character design is a lot of fun too.
NWN is a completely different animal, even in single-player. It's all about the gold pieces, baby.
