[OT] Naming a child Arwen

I wouldn't worry too much about a kid going through a phase of not liking their name or other kids teasing him/her because of it.

Look I me, I grew up carting Osvaldo Oyola Ortega around - and while I hated it for a while, I grew to really love it and now would have no other name.

Arwen is a fine name.

I've just recalled that when Ahmet Zappa was younger, he got tired of people calling him "Ahmet Vomit," so he changed his name.

To Rick. He reconsidered.

RE: Celes

Could this be an Engrish form of the Goddess Ceres?

RE: Molly + Thin Lizzie

IIRC Thin Lizzie is an Irish band. And the song Molly Malone is a very popular one for many irish bands.

[edit] RE: As a boy I new another named Thor and had really long hair...noone messed with him, cause he was a blackbelt by age ten or so.

My friend named his son Elric. That poor kid. The worst part for him is going to be people who understand the reference, and wonder why anyone would name their kid after a sickly albino who accidentally murdered all of his friends and family. Bet he's going to be real popular.

The worst part is, I'm the jerk who introduced his father to those books.

Listen, I have a slightly odd name (Max), not even that bizarre, and you wouldn't believe some of the insults I got. Kids are cruel. Don't give your kids' bullies any more ammunition than they already have. No one ever got teased for being named Michael or Tom. Just MHO.
