[OT] Naming a child Arwen

I like it but I understand your question. My wife & I are expecting a girl in April (our first kid) and we both like the name Diana, but are afraid that too many "Lady Di" connotations will be drawn. Actually, we were both thinking mythology when we originally considered it (OK, I was thinking "Wonder Woman"...happy!? ;) ). Now I think it would be like naming a boy "Elvis."
See, now I was thinking that Michael Jackson song "Dirty Diana" -- but maybe thats because I just heard that on the radio yesterday.

My wife worked with someone named Arwen, who was quite happy with her name. Of course, she was in her 20s by the time the movies came out, so that might change the dynamic somewhat.

I named my daughter after a Fantastic Four supporting character, but worried because it was shared by recently (if perhaps temporarily) popular celebrities -- who I have nothing against, but didn't want it thought that we were the kind of horrible people who name their children after actresses and singers (rather than blind sculptors). There might be a larger cluster of girls with the name in her age bracket than we'd like, but everyone seems to pronounce it differently anyway.

My wife and I gave serious thought to naming our potential daughter "Andromeda" after Greek mythology, but couldn't decide on a middle name that would go well with it.

As it turned out, it didn't matter: we had two sons instead.

Johnathan

P.S. - Many years later, our oldest son solved the problem, when he suggested "Andromeda Rae." We both liked that.

My friend is named Arwen. I'll send her a link to this thread. :D

Huh? Piratecat has a friend? Whoda thunk? I figured he just had "players" and "fans".

Anyhow, when we were expecting our child (first and only so far) I tried to get my wife to go along with Beowulf as a boy's middle name. Didn't work. Problem is that my wife's name is Morgana (not the "Kissing Bandit" before you ask) and she has had to deal with the mild ribbing that comes with having an unusual name.

Have you told your wife that yet? ;)

I will when I meet her. Maybe I'll even tell her on the First Date, just to get things straight about it if it comes up. I'm thinking waaay ahead here.
