Every year on January 1st, my husband & I spend the day doing something boring--we go through our filing cabinet and pull out all of our old cancelled checks, tax returns, etc. and shred them. It has become something of a tradition for us.

When we're done, we get drunk.

New Years Eve is like many things, it is what you make it. Personally, I've been invited to a party featureing friends and new people. I'm going to enjoy it and be happy, becasue frankly it's better then the alternative. So, be merry and enjoy it, complaining never solves a thing and only serves to bring you down.
