Love Hina should, in theory, be out in Feb. I have the special edition of Disk One on preorder.

On the other hand, I've had fansubs for a while now, so I'm not in any huge rush.

The manga is even better, I've had fan-translatated versions of that for a while too.

Kodansha is publishing bilingual (English in the word bubbles) editions of Love Hina manga. I have copies of 1 and 2. I think 3 is out but I haven't seen it yet. The story is ok, but I like Oh My Goddess better.

Actualy, while we are on the topic, I'd like for some suggestions myself :)

Be warned though... the usual "Cowboy Bebop" and "Ranma" type suggestions aren't what I'm after... I've seen just about everything that normaly pops up, and a lot of what hasn't. I've resorted to finding lesser-known to find anything I havn't seen. Heck, I _own_ almost everything mentioned here thus far (Sans Captain Taylor). I'm sorta running on the big red "E" here.

I just finished Hellsing and Taruto, I'm watching Hana Yori Dango for the second time, and got ahold of the movie of that, so I've got about a weeks worth of watching...

But after that I'm stumped.

If it's any of the "top 20-ish", don't bother (Ranma, Tenchi, Gundam, Eva, Esca, etc...), I've seen it. Anything "less known", suggest it, maybe I'll get lucky and find something I havn't seen, who knows? :)

now, wait a second...
The Ultimate in cat girls is in Hyperpolice... Natsuki Sasahara. She is the best Nekojin ever (and electrically charged, too)

No, no, no... the ultimate is:

"All Purpose Cultural Cat Girl Nuku Nuku"

Nuff said.

:D

Okay,
here's a really good one that was just finished being fansubbed:
) Mahoromatic (done by Gainax. It's very, very good)

Other recommendations:

Other really good recent ones (I think only available fansubbed in the US, for now):

) Noir
) Angelic Layer
) Read or Die (even though only the first two eps have been shown in Japan)

And some that have been licensed:

) El Hazard
) Maison Ikkoku
) Urusei Yatsura
) Jubei Chan
) Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X)
) Martian Successor Nadesico

Some that will be released soon:

) Inu Yasha
) Love Hina, definitely
) Vandread

I'm impressed that I actually remember watching through all these (in the last 8 months actually...)

Tsyr, is that a good list of somewhat newer/rarer stuff?

- edit: removed Battle Athletes because Tsyr already mentioned it

I dunno.

I used to love Ah! My Goddess!, but it just gets... repetative. I've got the OAVs, the movie, and 32 episodes of the "mini goddess" series on from a fansubber... I've got 6 volumes of the manga... And really, except for the first issues of the manga where they introduced the characters, it just is the same thing, strip after strip. Oh, there are some unique ones... The Cherry Blossom Spirit one was good, so was the mini-ninja series, at times, but really, it's quite repetative... Skuld being overprotective of Belldandy but ending up helping anyhow, Urd causing trouble just because she's urd, Belldandy being... well... Belldandy, Keiichi getting roped into yet another motorclub project with insane machines... It's like a TV series that ran too long.

Things got sorta fun again when they introduced Peorth, but... well... the new isn't new forever, ya know?

The movie... Well... The movie was like nothing else in the series, that's for sure... It was touching and very well animated and had good music... there are a lot of good things I could say about the movie, actualy... but it didn't really feel like AMG/OMG. Same characters, similar trappings, but vastly different in tone/theme/plot/etc.

Love Hina, at least, has a fairly wide collection of differing plotlines for the different strips/episodes. Sure, it always comes back to the Tokyo-U thing, but while working within that one plotline, they have a lot of variation. And Su is always good for a laugh or ten. (Su seems to have several "cousins" or something in Anime... Su is very similar to Ed in Cowboy Bebop, and she has effectivly a twin sister in Battle Athletes... Tanya, who looks a lot like Su but with longer hair (still same style though), comes from some vaugly defined african/indian area, is semi-barbaric at times, but an idiot savant at others...)

Mahoromatic (done by Gainax. It's very, very good)
I'll look into it.

Ah yes, thank you for reminding me, been on my "to get" list for a while, but the list is in my mind... which is sorta the same thing as writing the list down on paper but then throwing the paper into a tornado. It's in there somewhere... (I could be refering to the list or my mind, not sure which...). I think I remember one of my distributers having Noir.

) Angelic Layer
) Read or Die (even though only the first two eps have been shown in Japan)
Own and have watched the former, own but havn't yet got to watch the later.

) Battle Athletes Victory and OAVs
) El Hazard
) Maison Ikkoku
) Urusei Yatsura
) Jubei Chan
) Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X)
) Martian Successor Nadesico
In order: Own, Own, Seen and plan to own one day, Own, Seen but don't really care to own, Own, Own

) Inu Yasha
) Love Hina, definitely
) Vandread
Own, Own, I'll look into it.

Tsyr, is that a good list of somewhat newer/rarer stuff?

It's a start, yes. Must look into Noir.

About Love Hina,
I never did get Suu's name until now... I was much too distracted by Naru. I liked her part in the show a lot more than any of the other girls (never did care for Ed in Cowboy Bebop much anyway...) Suu's only good part was making the Mecha-Tamas, though... how could we survive without them...

Now, Tsyr... you should share some of your more rare/newer suggestions... I've got many, many episodes of series I've never watched and need to pick through them and watch some of the better ones.

The manga is a touch different... the other females have a lesser role than they do in the Anime, and some of their personalities are a touch different, Suu's included. She's still sorta the same Suu... Hyperactive, always hungry, genious inventor, etc, but she's a little more down-to-earth in the manga, or at least she CAN be... She doesn't seem to be able to be in the anime. I guess I should say she isn't quite as "alien" in the manga.

I guess I sorta identify with the characters in Love Hina a lot, that might be why I like it. Keitauro (sp?) for example... I've DONE some of the stuff he has done (Ever made sure you had some sort of candy-product around on Valentines day just to look like someone gave it to you? I have. It was as sad as it sounds, in retrospect, but at the time I didn't think so...). And I can empathise with anyone who failed to get into their college of choice the first time around and is trying to get in still. I'm currently in that situation.

*shrugs*

I'm half scared of the american release though... So much of that series could be ruined if they got bad VAs or a bad script for it. Not going to give my subs to anyone untill I see how it is...
