[OT] Optimus Prime joins the National Guard

I used to work with a guy named DiksPit. (substitute an 'h' for the P, as above). Pronounced just as you'd think. He usually went by Ajay, however.

An acquaintance of my brother's is named Cullin Kuntz.

I always feel vaguely sorry for people who are born into names like that. Unless they change them to something else, its gotta be hard to get through life when everytime you sign a form, the person looking it over wonders if you're playing a joke on them. Now the people who choose a name like that, they're prepared to take it, so they don't have it as bad.

My wife is a social worker, and deals with a bunch of kids from messed-up families. She had these two girls on her caseload once, and their last name was maggit. They called them the maggit sisters. Awful.

Then there was this boy that came to my work one day. He was doing some kind of shadow program where you go to a place of employment to see what they do. This was how the conversation went with he and I (he was about 12):
Me (after being introduced to the kid, whose name was Steven): Oh, I have a nephew named Steven.
Steven: Oh, I just became an uncle again this past weekend.
Me: Really? (thinking he's awful young to be an uncle)
Steven: Yes, my sister just had another baby.
Me: Oh, that's great. How old is your sister?
Steven: 18
Me: So was it a boy or a girl?
Steven: It was a girl.
Me: What's her name?
Steven: Queen Latifah
Me: (trying not to laugh) Really.
Steven: And I guess she'll take her boyfriend's last name, of Warrior. So it will be Queen Latifah Warrior.

True story.
I just couldn't imagine trying to go through life being Queen Latifah Warrior.

You mean like the time a Trek fan who wants to serve her jury duty wearing a starfleet uniform in court? :p

Sheesh... Just when you thought you heard the geekiest thing, something else pops up.

Is that a true story?

It's true, I saw it on some independant film done researching Trekkies. The person in question was a lady who wore her Star Trek uniform everywhere. The thing about it was that she refused to where something different when she had been called for jury duty.

she was in the news, so yeah i guess it is true. she even goes to work in her starfleet uniform, and the management stopped complaining about her years ago. ;)

Also, has another little boy, who's name is SPithead(same substitution). Pronounced Shi-THEED.

dude, no way, i've heard of that too. are people even paying attention at all when they name their kids? how about spelling it Sha'theed or something, it would sound the damn same. ;)

She was featured in Trekkies, Denise Crosby's (Tasha Yar from ST:TNG) funny little documentary on Trek fans. And the woman in question wasn't just any juror, either: she was serving on the Whitewater jury. That's right. The fate of the leader of the free world rested on a woman who insisted her Trek uniform was a military uniform that she was obligated to wear. Azathoth bless America.
