[OT] Poetry

I guess I'll post one of mine, lemme blow the dust off.;)

The Mask

Can it be seen, the face behind the mask?
Through the slanted dark eyes, the blood red lips.
The skin snow white a ghastly sight,
Brings chills to the moist fingertips.
Coal black hair that reaches the spine,
Eyebrows drawn like a pencil sketch.
The face is smooth and fine as porcelain,
Yet there’s something beneath that takes the breath.
It holds some secret in a forgotten mind,
The beauty of it is mysterious and haunting.
I’m staring hard, something’s here to find,
It sits perfectly still, Lifeless, yet taunting.
I’ll let it stay, where it belongs,
This shadow behind the light.
Where it may dwell, as life goes on,
From depths of black and white.

I have quite a few, but I won't post all of them, that is, unless you all are intrested.;)

The Moon

A perfect circle hanging still,
That glows like candlelight.
Creating shadows that can’t stand still,
And rampage through the night.

Silhouettes of trees and brush,
That sways with quiet ease.
Be still…be quiet…Shhhh…. and hush…
Beware the silent screams

Whispers

Can you hear the whispers told,
By people who cannot see.
They think their lives are good as gold,
And point their finger at me.

I know that I am different,
To which ever the case may be.
I guess I’m just convenient,
Because I hold no proof nor key.

They talk like no tomorrow,
They stare with accusing eyes.
They’re the ones, who cause my sorrow,
Are they telling lies?

If I hear the whispers enough,
Not long, I’ll believe them true.
I realize now, I’m not that tough,
I begin to whisper too.

What a great thread!!

This is some great stuff, folks. It's fascinating to see where people are coming from. You've inspired me to post some more of my lyrics...

The Mirror Lied

Lately when I wake up I don't like my reflection
It's not just only my looks, but this internal infection
I've lived my life through naive eyes
And egotism was my demise...

Looked in the mirror, thought I saw an immortal man
The mirror looked back and saw the truth behind my scam
How could I have been so blind,
To let these lies inside my mind?

Built myself up oh so high
And saw the world through blinded eyes
It's painful now to realize
That the mirror lied

Searched inside for a reason
Everything fell out of place
Guilty of personal treason
Denial etched upon my face
No place to run, no place to hide
A victim of my selfish pride

I thought I knew it all
So high I rose, so far to fall
It's so painful now to realize
That the mirror lied

The mirror lied...

I'm a slam poet who regularly performs out here in San Jose. Diosa, I'm actually the scorekeeper for the Silicon Valley Poetry Slam. Most of my poetry is decently long (being designed to fill the majority of the 3 min. 10 sec. time limit in slam poetry) and designed to be heard, not read, so I don't think I'll post any.

Write on!

Things Left Unsaid

The thoughts are wanderin' through my head
The way they always do
Should I stay or should I go
To seek out something new?
Lookin' for a reason,
The static builds inside my head
I've looked inside for answers
But found more questions there instead

The more I sit and think
The deeper I feel I've pried
Into the very core of my soul
But Lord knows that I've tried
To find a resolution to
What ails my troubled mind
But in the end it seems I've found
That there was nothing there to find

I've searched my seven seas
And I've got nowhere else to go
I haven't got the faintest clue
But it feels like I should know
An explanation for myself
Seems so long overdue
But I've come up empty-handed
And I've got nothing else to lose

The more I sit and think
The deeper I feel I've pried
Into the very core of my soul
But Lord knows that I've tried
To find a resolution to
What ails my troubled mind
But in the end it seems I've found
That there was nothing there to find

The more I sit and think
I feel there's nothing here at all
And if my soul weighs heavy
then it won't have far to fall
But all this introspection
Has got me in a bind
'Cause I'm so tired of searching
That I don't care quite what I find

I like your work, Malessa.

Salvage of a Lost Faith
by Merak Spielman

"This is the last one
Father,"
Said the boy, holding the parcel
Up
And looking back with mirror eyes
at the charred,
Hellburnt
Shell of what had been their home.
"There are no more."

This is great!..........Ok boxstop7, I think you may get a kick out of this one. I wrote it way, way back when, about 11yrs ago, when I was 19? ew..time flies!

Guitar Man

He sits in the darkness
Strumming his guitar
Writing his own lyrics
A silent desolate star

His eyes deep with sorrow
In the ballads that he plays
Hair long and wild
A rebel of today

He has no part in society
In the fast pace glamour life
Just his guitar in one arm
And the songs that he writes

The only way to know him
Is through his word of song
He’s unlike any man
His voice and pen are strong

His songs will make him famous
He’ll be where no one stands
For he’s obsessed with music
I , with guitar man

Great stuff guys! Here is a favorite of mine (this one is already on the ILP site)...

Thunder and Lightning
K. David Ladage

Softly, the river speaks
Her voice gently rippling along the shore
Crying, she silently weeps
For her everlasting kingdom is no more

Slowly, the clouds roll in
And like blue velvet, the rain begins to fly
And the river shines
As she looks to her brothers in the sky

Then comes rolling thunder...
The lightning is shining, oh so brightly!
Then comes rolling thunder...
The sky is alive with the clouds so mighty!

Slowly the clouds roll out
And like a dream, the rain fades slowly away
And the river shines
As she looks forward to another day

Softly, the river speaks
Her voice, gently rippling along the shore
Laughing, she silently weeps
For her everlasting kingdom is no more

Simple Rhyme
K. David Ladage

A man was born
His life was torn
His heart a mess
I must confess
But he did live
A life to give
The happiness he never had

This man was sad
And never glad
This man, you see
Could never be
The heart and soul
Or pay the toll
On the bridge he had to cross
