[OT] Question of the week

I'd go listen to the Buddha when he first started gaining followers.

After that, I'd go see if the story of Lao-Tzu and the gatekeeper/border guard was true, and see exactly what was written down.

Then I'd probably go voyeuristic... But Eric's grandma won't let me say where or when.

I would like a ring side seat to see that asteroid/comet hit the earth and bring about the extinction of the dinosaurs.

Be at Alexanders' Death bed when he says that his kingdom belongs "to the strongest."
Or
May of 1431 in the market place in Rouen when Joan of Arc is burned at the stake.

Battle of Thermopylae, 480 B.C.E, in which the Spartans fought the humongous invading army of Xerxes to a standstill before finally falling. One of the most noble sacrifices of fighting men ever, and bought the Athenians crucial time. Perhaps the most critical turning point in the history of western civilization. It is very difficult to imagine a world where the Persians bested the Greeks, and that was where they really showed the Persians their mettle.

Otherwise, let me second that comet strike in the Yucatan that offed the dinosaurs. I luvs me some big 'splosions.

Apart from the fact that the Persians found another route around the Spartan (and 6,000 strong allied) force within a day or two thanks to some locals guiding them through other passes. The spartan (and 6,000 allied forces) were cut off and destroyed because its never a good idea to leave that big a force behind you. Their sacrifice didn't actually buy any time.

Platea would be a better example, where the Spartan element was isolated and was able to hold the Persian offensive long enough for the withdrawing greek forces to regroup and counter attack. At least that ended in a victory for them.
