[OT, sidekicks] Trapper John or BJ Honeycutt?

And likewise BJ was to the good guys what Winchester was to the bad; watered-down versions. :D

Winchester is one of my favorite characters from the show. The thing is he isn't one of the bad guys. As arrogant, self-righteous, and rude as Winchester was, deep down he's a good guy. A perfect example is the episode were they are collecting a christmas fund for the orphans and Winchester repeatedly snubs them, only be caught at the end of the episode sneaking to the orphanage at night to deliver presents. Misguided, perhaps, but not bad.

Trapper quit the show because he was promised that he'd be more than just a sidekick. He wanted his own share of funny lines.

Hunnicutt didn't care.

Aside from that, I just happen to like Hunnicutt. He was a nicer guy than Trapper, in my opinion.

Everyone know about Radar's hand?

Trapper John was better imho.

For a foil, I preferred Winchester to Burns.

And I liked Col. Blake more, but I prefer Potter. If that makes any sense.

i remember just being shocked at how preachy and unfunny the show started getting at the end. yes alan, war = bad. we know......

You stole my thunder.

Trapper without a doubt. The show was still a comedy then.

My wife watches the reruns. They drive me up that wall. Alan, just because war is bad does not mean that the whole military (especially general officers) are evil people. Ever notice how on the show only the medical members of the military have any integrity? Self righteous idiots. [/rant]

Trapper...by along shot.

I've found that it tends to break down along gender lines...moe women seem to like B.J. than Trapper, while more men seem to like Trapper than B.J..

...

*Resists urge to say something innappropriate here*

The earlier seasons are always the best in most shows aren't they? I can't think of too many shows that actually got BETTER with time...

Of course Southpark might be an exception - Not that I'm gonna buy a pay-per-view special though...

Wasn't Gary Burghoff's (sp? -- aka Radar) one hand slightly crippled/disfigured? That is why you always see him carrying something in it (his teddybear, a clipboard, bugle, etc.).

Okay here is another obscure Radar tidbit... Did you know that Gary is a fantastic drummer in real life (I know they had him play a few times on the show).

Okay, so I was a M.A.S.H. nut when I was growing up (i.e. when it was not in constant reruns). :D

As for the original question, I would have to pick Trapper. While I prefer the earlier seasons the most, I do have to say that I always liked Col Potter more than Col Blake. :)

Cheers,
Tim
