[OT, sidekicks] Trapper John or BJ Honeycutt?

i always liked Trapper John more than B.J. a much more sardonic wit, whereas B.J. was "nicer."

Me? I like Winchester. A much deeper and more inherently funny character than Burns.

me too. Frank Burns was never more than a caricature of a bad guy. Winchester was a good foil to the duo without being bad. he had a lot of depth of character -- enough so that on many occasions, he and Hawkeye could even unite against something else.

i always liked Col. Potter better than Col. Blake, too. again, Blake was a caricature of an inefficient bureaucrat. Potter had a lot of soul. Blake was like your ineffectual vice-principal. Potter was like your favorite grumpy grampa. :)

Gary Burghoff's left hand was deformed from a birth defect. The fingers on the hand only go to what most people would refer to as the "middle" knuckle.

Hmmm.... I had heard that he was polydactyl. Guess my information was wrong...

Well, call me old school to the end, but I guess I preferred Colonel Blake to Colonel Potter. Though I do like Potter’s character, I guess I just have a soft spot for Henry. Especially when they killed his character off. It is one of the most dramatic TV deaths of all time - even though it’s never seen. Radar delivering the news in the operating room still sends a shiver down my spine. It’s also one of the single worst moves by an actor – can anyone tell me what McLean Stevenson did after that? The only thing I remember is a dreary sitcom that lasted about 6 weeks named “Condo”, or something like that.

As for Winchester v. Burns…some of your comments have caused me to reevaluate Charles. Never liked him too much, but I’m wondering if my vision was being skewed by the fact that the show in general had fallen off quite a bit when he arrived. If anything, he was certainly more three-dimensional than Frank. But Frank was a pretty good target for the docs.

Ok who was the voice of loudspeaker. You know "wounded wounded in the compound"

Occassionally the voice was Radar if the Radar was on the speaker you either saw him on the mike or had scene he scuttle off to the orderly room.

My favs

Trapper, Burns, and Potter. And the sitcom McLean Stevenson left to do was called "Larry", and he played a divorced Radio personality with a couple of kids. I remember the kids from Dif'rent strokes guest starred the first episode in a cross-over thing. Does anyone remember who played Larry's beautiful daughter? She played in Witch Mountain.

Trapper John, Colonel Potter, and Winchester.

Trapper John was just cool. Mind you this is coming from a 19-year old who watched the show because his 18 year old girlfriend made him sit down and watch it with her, and now I've fallen in love with this show. My girlfriend likes Trapper John better too(she's a Catholic who hates being preached to. I sometimes wonder why her head hasn't exploded like in Scanners, I've been to exactly 1 Sunday Mass with her, so I know what her priest is like).

Colonel Potter reminds me, as someone else brought up, of a grumpy grandfather. He specifically reminds me of my departed grandfather who was, IIRC, a military man himself(I think he served in WW2, can't remember off the top of my head). BAsically, the type who never could bring himself to say the words, "I love you", but you knew he wanted to in his heart.

And Winchester just reminds me of the guy I share office space with now(a very recent development, me in an office). He comes off very haughty(leave it to the guy who went to community college to end up in an office with a guy from Harvard); but I've earned a couple SYA points by helping him out(we're both writers; he just considers his writing to be infinitely superior to mine since my degree isn't even in a writing related field and well, he's a Harvard man) and he seems to be a decent person underneath all the bull he throws up(I can actually see him dropping off toys at an orphanage like Winchester did).
