Well, that's what happens when you compaire fringe hobby with a national past time. Gen Con, the biggest gaming convention has how many people go to it? Compare that to how many people go to a single sporting event?
Well, here in Milwaukee, former home of GenCon, I believe said convention out-sold any home game series (3-4 games against one opponent*) for National Pasttime hometown team Milwaukee Brewers. :D

*not sure what the correct term for these sets of games is.

So here is a question for you game store owners. What is your profit?

I always am reminded of the old joke (it originally was for resturants but it works just as well for game stores).

Q: how to you make a small fortune in games?

A: Start with a large fortune.

One reason for the low RPG sales is the fact that you generally only need the core rule book(s) to play. As a result once a person buys the core book(s) they don't need to buy anything else to continue the game. CCGs on the other hand force players to continue buying cards if they want to continue playing. Let's face it, they aren't called "card crack" for nothing. Since new cards continually come out, and older cards are declared illegal, players are forced to continually buy new cards to "keep up with the Joneses".
