[OT, sorry] I've got a big problem with Planescape: Torment

I got Planescape: Torment a few days ago, and I've hit onto something of a problem. Every so often while I'm playing my computer restarts. No warning or anything, just a blank screen then it's rebooting. Any ideas on why this is happening, what the problem might be and how to fix it?

FYI, I'm running Windows XP.

Thanks for any help, as this is driving me up the wall!

I've no clue what might be causing it, so I'm just going to give a generic "check that the game is patched fully and that all your drivers are the latest ones." I hope you can get it working well, because Torment is a damned cool game. (I also love that the best thing Black Isle's done in many years is taking another company's rpg engine and making an adventure game with it.)

Well, your problem is easy to find: Windows XP!!!
Most of my favorite games designed for Wndows 95 fail to work well in that bull:):):):) called Windows XP...

I pretty sure the games fully patched as it came with the latest patches on the disc. My drivers should be up to date as well, as I only got the computer two weeks ago.

It does look like a rather good game, but I haven't been able to get very far into yet.

Horacio, thank you for such a helpful reply :p :D I've found XP to be rather good so far, so I'd hate for that to be the problem...

Well, if you *really* want a solution, I have one...

Make a partition of at least 2 Gb in the hard disk, install Windows 98 in the partition, and a boot manager to choose betwenn XP and 98, and use the Windows 98 partition to install and play old games...

You aren't using a nVidia video card and VIA chipset motherboard, are you?

Hmmmmph?

I have played the game sucessfully with a nvidia card and a motherboard with both VIA northbrigde and soutbridgy, without any problems at all!

There's a bug in either the nVidia 23.11 drivers or the second to latest VIA 4in1 drivers that causes a BSOD under certain curcumstances. (In WinXP, it automatically reboots on a BSOD.)
