[OT, sorry] I've got a big problem with Planescape: Torment

Thanks for the link Ashtal, looks like a rather good site. Tried the forums, but the only topic covering the same problem as me is not really conclusive. Still, I'll try posting over there and see if someone can help me.

You may want to try emailing Interplay/Black Isle about your problem with the game. It is their responsiblity and job to provide support to people who buy their games. Plus they're likely to know more about it than any one else.

Welverin, thats a pretty good idea. I'll give it a go. Thanks :)

Agnostic Paladin, thanks for the nVidia link. I'll try updating my drivers, see if that makes a difference.

Hopefully they won't say "Sorry, but the game doesn't support Windows XP so you're on your own."

Hopefully not! I'm going to e-mail them some time next week, as I've got *very* bogged down in colledge work...

Do you, by chance, have a C-Media onboard sound card?

These have known problems with Infinity Engine games., in which they randomly crash while playing. There are several threads on the Black Isle messageboards that describe how to fix this.

I, myself, had this problem, and I was able to fix it by downloading a certain set of drivers. Run a search on their boards, and you should be able to find the solution.

Sorry that I can't provide more specific info, since this happened a while back. :(

Glad you mentioned it. I personally solved this by disabling 3d Acceleration. I will try to disable hardware sound acc someday :)

When I first played Torment, I had a problem with the game controls -- I had set it to auto-pause after every round of combat (to avoid the repetetive space-bar-tapping I ran into in Baldur's Gate). However, this didn't work so well, and caused a lot of problems running the game. As I recall it, my problems occurred whenever I tried to use some of my Nameless mighty powers, so this may not apply to you. Still, easy enough to check out, as the auto-pause thing is somewhere in the game controls.

Like I said, I got really bogged down in work over the past couple of weeks, so PST went by the wayside somewhat.

RogueJK: I am as it happens. Thanks for the tip. I'll go and have a dig around Black Isle.

Psionicist: I may get back to you about disabling stuff, as it sounds like it could be my problem.

i had problems until i put the entire game on my harddrive. it takes up 1.3 gigs, but it runs real smooth for me. you only need to have disk 2 in the cd drive to play it this way....it's very fast and i don't think i ever had another restart after that.

How do you go about doing this? My computer knowledge is rather patchy.
