[OT] Star Wars Ep 4-6 on DVD and for sale already?

Not releasing them to date. You were speaking of him being somehow screwed if he "double dipped" consumers by releasing bare bones DVD's early and then SE's later. The point was the public wouldn't be a tenth as annoyed by what he is doing now, not releasing them at all (yet).
That can't be proven to be true or false concerning the general public. All things considered, anyone who wants them out now will be more vocal then those who are willing to wait. I have already said many times why they aren't out now. If that couldn't be extrapolated from my many posts on this already then there isn't anything more I can say.

As for the no-win situation I mentioned, it is already in effect. He is getting criticized right now, by you and others, for not releasing the original movies. If they were released right now, they would not be what Lucas wants to release - he has said this already. If we are going to out-and-out call him a liar and just ignore what he said, then we can't continue this conversation.

Keep in mind I'm playing devil's advocate here. I don't care if he ever releases SW on DVD, because I won't buy anything other than the original versions. Since he said he isn't going to release the originals, I'll probably never buy another SW movie again, save Ep III if its to my liking.
I guess we differ here. I want both. I am dissappointed that he has no current plans to release the original trilogy without the SE enhancements but I believe he will come around on that.

So if you're all into the SE's and waiting until whatever day they come out, that's great. But don't think 1. Lucas can't release full blown super duper versions of the original films RIGHT NOW if he wanted or 2. His reasoning behind NOT doing it is anything other than "Lucas just doesn't feel like it."
For reason 1 - He won't and I have already illustrated the reasons. If you wish to refute them, please do as I am always up for spirited conversation. :) If you know Mr. Lucas daily schedule for the next 2 years please let me know. I assume you do because you are so sure he has the time and focus to supervise the creation of said DVDs the way he wants to and has always done it.

For reason 2 - That's just supposition. It would be nice to have some proof to back that up. :)

Very true. After about six releases on VHS, another three on Laserdisc, if he released TWO MORE versions on DVD Lucas will be destroyed.

After gobbling up nine releases of the same films the public is obviously sending a clear message to George that it WILL NOT BE MANIPULATED. This is the DVD AGE George! We are sheep no longer! Remember the two versions of Spider-Man? E.T.? Lord of the Rings? All had double releases, and their creators DIED because of it. Suicides after emotional scarring from internet bashing.

So will it be with you George. You have been warned....
Heheh, that was pretty good. I get the point you are trying to make here. :)

The DVDs you mentioned all came out within months of each other and aren't really considered double-dipping. Okay, well they can be but the kind of double-dipping that is bashed is the kind where there is some time (at least a year) and no advanced warning of another release of the same film on the DVD format. In all of my posts I am not referring to him releasing, almost concurrently, a bare-bones and extras filled version. I am referring to a senario where he releases a bare-bones now (which is what it would be because of the control-freakish nature of Lucas and his concentration on Episode 3) and the loaded version in, say, 2006 which is when we'll likely see them. Obviously, he doesn't want to just milk the Star Wars cow concerning the DVDs or he would have already released a bare-bones set of the original trilogy. I don't see how people view this as him "dragging his feet" or "just not wanting to."

I just borrowed that book from my library about a week and a half ago along with Foster's The Approaching Storm. But what easter egg?

Vergere showed up in one of the prequel era books, who not much was known about at the time the book was released.

If you haven't read Rogue Planet yet don't bother, it's not worth the bother.

I bought the original trilogy on VHS when they released them for the last time (right before SE replaced them.) They're still good for many, many years. I'm in no hurry for DVD original trilogy (special edition, super special edition, or what have you.)

What I'd like to see is Lucas opening up the license to someone else, though -- as difficult as that would be to do. A movie with a competent director set in the Knights of the Old Republic setting; how cool would that be?

Oh, ok. I saw that, but I wasn't sure that's what you meant. Vergere being mentioned along with many other Jedi Masters in Cloak of Deception.

Oh, and thanks for the heads-up about Rogue Planet. I gotta find some more of the Jedi Apprentice series. My younger brother went and got my dad to buy #1 for him, but he never read it. I wasn't into Star Wars then. I realize it's a little more lighter reading than the others, but after reading the long chapters in The Approaching Storm, it'll be a fresh change of pace. Besides, I wanna see how it all happened...
