[OT] Stupid clothing ...

In a dress shirt (single needle not oxford) the holes will NOT disapear. I have tossed several shirts whose name-tag holes had gotten too large.

Hm. How would I know if their single needle or Oxford? Their J Crew if it helps any.

If all else fails, stick the pin through your name badge rather than through your shirt.

Store Tag is metal, sorry :)

I want to echo my agreement with those who said not to worry too much about the holes, they'll disappear in the wash. Every day I put on my blue uniform (in the AF) I have to wear a name tag and a career field badge, each with two pins. Prior to putting the shirt in the wash, there are 4 lovely little pin holes, but like I said earlier, they disappear in the wash. And these gov't issue shirts aren't the highest quality in the world, so you should be fine.

I always thought that the names on AF uniforms were embroidered or ironed on...but that's just me.

I'd go a step further and get Old Glory Tattoed on my chest.:D

On the BDU (cammies) the names are embroidered onto a name tape which is then sewn on. On the dress blue shirt (our "office" attire), however, we wear name tags, badges, and ribbons attached via the aforementioned stick-pin method.

Now my question, why are the little brass things that hold an item on called "frogs"??

This is a little far-fetched, but it may apply. Back in the Ye Olde Medieval days, the holster for a mace I.E. the leather strap attached to a belt from which the mace hung when not it use was called a 'fraug'. perhaps some odd inventor had heard the name used and thought to himself "Hey, that holds a metal stick, and so does this.....it's a frog!"

I dunno, what do you think?

Have you ever seen anyone accidentally put his eye out with a fork/knife while saluting when a ranking officer for some reason entered the mess hall? I always wonder if things like that happen.
