Rename "The Two Towers" to Something Less Offensive Petition

Don't know if it's meant to be a joke; the petitioner seems truly concerned; most of the signers (those who weren't voided) seem to realize how dumb this person is. Still, the mere existence of this petition makes me shed a tear as the Collective Intelligence of Humanity drops a few notches...

Speaking of The Two Towers, I never actually got which two towers the title reffered to. Anybody care to enlighten me?

I've always assumed that it referred to Minas Tirith (which as I remember means "tower of the sun"), and Minas Morgul ("tower of death").

You know, I went there and noted a TON of "false entry, voided" entries...

It appears that even though the petition shows 1139 signatories (as of my viewing it), only 87 of them are unique. Of those 87, approximately 50 are belittling the idea. Leaving us with a grand total of about 40 blockheads.

Thank goodness that there are so few idiots in the world. My faith in humanity has been slightly restored.

I have always subscribed to the theory that the two towers referred to "Orthanc" and "Barad Dur".

After all the first part of the book deals entirely with the treachery of Saruman, while the second half deals with Frodo and Sam's struggle to reach Mordor and evade the dark lord of Barad Dur.

As Sigil pointed out though it can be pretty ambiguous and is thus open for interpretation.

However I think we can all agree that it DOES NOT refer to the World Trade Center attacks seeing as how they took place 50 years after the book was written.

The guy who wrote the petition even acknowldges this. I guess he is assuming Tolkien had limited omniscience and was just making sure his title would be in bad taste 50 years down the line. Gimmie a break.

By that freaks logic we should probably strike the word "tower" and "towers" from the English language because they can only possibly refer to the WTC.

I don't know... Not all "idiots" out there have found this site (or are even able to), or even have access to the internet, do they? Thus, this seemingly small number is by no means indicative of the frequency of "idiots" worldwide.
