(OT) T-1 hour till my defense

I believe him... :p

Tee hee. :D

You know: It's semantic hoop-jumping and speakpolice that make me not miss being at university.

To completely hijack the thread: My senior year at UST, I was trying to get volunteers for a summer foster care program at the agency where my wife works. I was talking to two students about the sorts of children they'd be working with if they volunteered: severe abuse trauma, many very oppositional, general lack of social skills, a few children actually psychotic but on appropriate meds, et cetera.

One of the two students looks at me, and with a great deal of seriousness and self-righteousness informs me: "I am a psychology major, and we don't use the term 'psychotic'."

"Well," I wondered aloud, "what do you call a person with a psychosis?"

Her mouth dropped open for a bit, but she never did answer my question. Just huffed and looked Morally Outraged.

I find the generally innocent insolence of my middle school students much more delightful. :)

"I think" is a weaker statement than "I believe".

In a physics environment, "I have shown" is far stronger than either. What you think, or you believe is far secondary to what you can prove and what is supported by the data.

I hate off topic threads but this is kinda big for me

I will defend my doctoral dissertation in one hour.

It is titled "Classical and Quantum Aspects of Cosmology"
:)

May you have a Flawless Victory

Didn't see this until too late (I hope!). I hope you impressed the committee.

Even more deeply, I hope you have a job already, or find one very soon.

The diss is a great accomplishment--congratulations.

It went fine. sorry I have had other things on my mind. I had not logged on.

The wavefunction was collapsed and I passed plus corrections (minor stuff) Thanks for your good will. I look forward to meeting you guys at Gen Con.:p
