Has anyone else seen this yet?

I watched it last night, and while the plot is a bit thin, it has a lot of elements that make for a great gamer movie.

Thematically it is similar to "The Matrix". A Post-World War III world, where humanity was almost wiped out. Now they live in a rigidly controlled society where human emotion has been deemed dangerous and illegal. The entire population takes a drug called "Prozium" that nullifies emotional extremes. No Hate, Rage, or Jealousy. No Love, Joy, or Compassion. No Passion at all.

The main character is a member of the Cleric Grammaton's, a sect of warrior monks who practice the Gun Kata, and are the governments highest level of enforcers. They routinely take on odds of 10 or more to 1 in gun fights. They are tasked with hunting down the Sense Offenders who don't take their prozium and revel in the emotional extremes that threaten their society. The "Underground" is the rebel movement that tries to preserve the elements of the past that can evoke strong emotions: great works of art, music, poetry, etc.

Of course the main character eventually commits the greatest crime a Cleric can. He starts to feel.

That's the main elements that start the movie. The rest of it is full of cool looking gun battles and incidental character development, and occasionally the plot moves forward. :)

The movie does suffer a bit from the "the main character is such a badass no one can really face him" syndrome. There a few fight scenes that don't seem to serve any other purpose other than to showcase how many ways he can kill people.

Overall I liked it and found it entertaining, despite it's flaws. I would recommend it to any gamer who likes character concepts with a gun theme. :)

Someone with 1400 posts should know we have a separate forum for movies. :D

I'll airlift this over so it can be free to run with its herd.

Hmm... I must have missed it when this forum was created. I usually only check the General and Rules forum.

That would explain why you didn't reply to the thread where I asked if anyone had seen it.

I just rented this movie last night. I thought it was Fahrenheight 451 with action added to it! Seriously though I thought that the gun kata was awesome. The last action scene is worth the price of the rental. Personally I thought that last action scene was better than the lobby scene from the Matrix which it obviously paralleled.
Anyone who plays a gun concept character in one of their roleplaying games must see this movie.:D

I saw the movie a month or so ago. I thought it was pretty cool. While the plot is inconsequential and ultimately forgettable, it's the action scenes that matter. The gun-kata was simply awesome.

Now, I only need to resurrect old Zogen Feuermacher somehow, and get him some ranks in Tumbling... :D

I'm still waiting for it to be released here.

I closely followed this movie on the internet through all stages of
production (well, except probably the script writing). I remember
when they announced casting and reports of preview screenings
and so on. I was highly anticipating it.

Then the studio dropped the ball on it and it hasn't even been
distributed here yet (what about 'em other European countries?).

Saw it at the pictures a couple of months ago, the scene where the only lighting for the filming comes from the flare from the gun shots it very original and entertaining.

Tetra Gramatron

I think the little things in this movie are great. The prozia doses looking like bullets, ie societies mass suicide. Also I looked up tetra gramatron in the dictionary and it refers to the letters in the old testament that spell God's proper name Yaweh or Jehovah. So the clerics are Clerics of God. I especially liked when he said " We are tetra gramatron we can do whatever we want" when they where raiding the womans house. He was effectively saying that the clerics had replaced God in their society. Sorry if that seems jummbled I am coming off a 12 hr grave yard shift.

Unfortunately I thought the writing in this film was really bad. Their idea of subtlety, apparently, is a sledgehammer.

Some of the visuals were good, but ultimately I only give this film a 6/10 or so.

For gun action I still think the Chow Yun Fat film Hard Boiled is the best.
