i actually got stuck on this because of a neighbor.

my nextdoor neighbor has never been more than 30 miles form home. when he found out i was going to england this winter he asked why i would want to leave the country. i explained several reasons and he started telling me how bad travelling would be.

he stressed "what are you gonna do if you go and get lost?"

i pointed out that i would ask around or check the signs, afterall, everything is in english.

he replies "you can't count on that from foreigners!"

Oh dear... I'm completely speechless! Did you not point out the obvious similarity between the name of the country and the name of the language?

i pointed out that england-english wasn't a coincidence, he merely started rambling about how europe is one big country now with the same currency, roads and language.

he is a nice (OLD) man, but i think he has a very distorted view of the world

Ah well. Some people can't be helped. I firmly believe that everyojne should travel as much as possible. I don't travel nearly as much as I'd like to (although I am going back to Sweden with Liquide when he's finished sleeping on my couch and eating all my food in a few weeks!).

will do, soon as i have all in place. it will be my first time out of the lower 48

i have a hobby of checking off things i had to stare at in art history classes, and it is impossible to finish (or even really get a great start) in the states

i am gonna try and see piratecat in boston on my way out of the country(someone tell him, please), this is shaping up to be a very cool trip indeed
