[OT] Unreal Tournament 2003

I downloaded the demo last weekend, and thought it looked great, even on my PIII/800, 256MB, GeForce3 machine (they do note, howeer, that they reduced the graphics laod for the demo, and the full release will be more tech-intensive).

Come Christmastime, I'll get my brother to exercise his Babbages employee discount for my benefit.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The official release date of this game into stores is this coming Tuesday or Wednesday. However, the Electronics Boutique stores around here started having a promotional limited-stock release today, which I vaguely heard about yesterday but was reminded of when I called EB this morning. By the time I got to the nearest EB store, they had three copies of the game (and a few copies of the game's Official Strategy Guide) left on the shelves.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp To top it all off: the promotional price is $10 less than what the game will cost come the official release day.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Needless to say, soon after my arrival, there were only two copies of the game left on the shelves!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Now that I've uninstalled the game's demo, installed the full version and have played it some, all I have to say is:

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp What do you get when you cross Unreal Tournament 2003 with soccer (although some might say hockey)?

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp That's right - you get DeathBall!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp It's similar to how the mixing of Unreal Tournament 2003 and American football (although some might say rugby) resulted in the Bombing Run game mode included in the game.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp DeathBall doesn't replace any of the existing game modes to the game (which include Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Domination 2.0, and Bombing Run), but is instead added to the list. And man is it fun!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp As a followup to the previous post:

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Version 1.2 of the DeathBall mod for Unreal Tournament 2003 has just been released, which includes a modified version of its main map (a kind of urban concrete soccer field), as well as two new DeathBall maps (one of the new maps has you playing on a Lego soccer field).

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp I would also recommend downloading and installing this map, which is modeled after an actual soccer (football) stadium (except, of course, for the WWE-style fan audience behind the surrounding metal grating ).

P.S. = And it looks like someone is working on an Assualt Mode mod with maps for the game

- this was one of my favorite modes in the original Unreal Tournament which for some reason was left out of the retail release of Unreal Tournament 2003.

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Lots of stuff happening lately for Unreal Tournament 2003!

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp The latest patch (version 2186) was just released earlier today (you can read the big list of changes here).

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Also earlier today, Digital Extremes released its official Bonus Pack, which includes six new maps (3 for Deathmatch/Team Deathmatch, 2 for Capture The Flag, and 1 for Bombing Run).

&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp&nbsp Epic Games will be releasing its official Bonus Pack pretty soon - it'll include even more maps, as well as three new game modes, two new Adrenaline combos, some new mutators/mods, three new announcer-voice packs to choose from, etc. You can read about it in this interview.
