Well, I'm into swimming, skiing, volleyball, fencing, and martial arts... do those count?
I was getting concerned that maybe I was the only fencer here...

I've been in the sport for 8 years now & fence with both the foil and the epee... I'm about to represent my state at the national championships in Sydney...

in fact, it starts two weeks today...!! damn...!!! better get back to training...!

I'm an Aussie and I play Cricket!!

Nothing Better!!

Yes! Cricket rules!

Even watching it is great! What other sport lets you watch/play it for 5 days straight? (Well "three" if we're playing England...)

I played some lacrosse in college. There are lots of clubs around Chicago--with older players even, but my knees wouldn't forgive me if I did the kind of endless running that lacrosse requires. But I still have my sticks and will play catch with my old friends from time to time. Here's a link to some general pics.

There's nobody here to teach me or even study with. I practice alone, when I can. Which of late has not been very often.

I saw a Tae-Kwon Do badge on your site -- is that your thing?

Katori Shinto Ryu - I think I'm learning one of your iai forms in my iaido studies. I never thought I'd meet another swordsman on these boards!

This leads me to an interesting question: I'll start a new thread, what martial arts does everyone study?

Hockey! lots and lots of Hockey, i can average about 3 days worth a week. I have been playing the Great sprot of Hockey for about 18 years now, started as pond hockey, them mighty midget organized, then i played for the junior storm out of Toledo Ohio, then high school hockey. had to stop playing organized while in the Army, then i lost vision in one of my eyes, and that ended that career. now i mostly play in leagues, and drop-ins.

On the 8th day God created Hockey!!

You know that qualifies you for a Canadian dual-citizenship right? ;)

you mean you've had all those awesome German fencers so close and you've not found time to get out there...?!?!?!?

*sigh*

I hope to travel to europe to fence at some stage... that would be an amazing opportunity... but for now I'll just have to contend with the few WA fencers, with the occassional visitor from NSW or Victoria (and even more occassionally overseas)...

Crap, it sucks that you've got no one to train with. Can you teach? Maybe start your own club? Or even just with friends. It's a shame to let such a thing fade. Could you transfer your skills to something else at a local club... Kendo stick fighting, Aikido (the weapons training part), Fencing, ect. ect. Sometimes if you find an Art that's close you can transfer your skills with little problem. If you haven't done so yet call around. You may find that a master of another art has experience with you style. I'm not very familiar with your art so this could all just be a dead issue? :)

Ya, Taekwon Do (ITF) is indeed my thing, I just got my first degree Black belt last month :D. The test was insane! It's lots of fun. I'd tried Aikido for a while, but it just wasn't quite for me. Very interesting, but not right. If you'd like I can suggest some TKD clubs in your area? I wish I could tell you of a Katori Shinto Ryu Sensei near you, but unfortunately TKD is the best I can do for you... or maybe not...

Try the link below, it may be for a "similar" school in your area. If it's not right or even close, they still may be able to point you in the right direction. You could also try asking Aikido Schools if they know of anyone, as the weapons training in Aikido is based partly on Katori Shinto Ryu.
