[OT] Who are YOU and what do you DO?

I'm a father, a friend, and a nice guy (tm). I'm not tall, good-looking, charming or exciting, but I am smart, funny, helpful, giving, affectionate and a good listener (unless my attention is focused elsewhere).

I'm 41, and recently divorced. I've been gaming since the spring of '80 and, with extremely rare exceptions, I have only played various flavors of D&D. The most satisfying and longest-lasting relationships in my life (outside of direct family of course) have all been a result of gaming.

I grew up in a small college town in upstate NY (which at one time had the highest number of bars per capita in the state). I did well in school and dropped out of college after my first year. I eventually went back (after five years of great times) and graduated as an Industrial Enginner just before my 10-year high school reunion. I currently live in Erie, Pennsylvania.

I won't reveal my real name, but it is similar to my screen name, with a space. It sometimes also includes a middle initial and, on rare occasions, an entire middle name.

At work, my name is usually followed by a comma and the initials PE. This signifies that I am in the minority of Engineers who are actually licenced, practicing/professional engineers. I work for a company which supplied 80% of the US aricraft engine mounts during WWII. I am the lowest-paid PE in the entire company (not that I'm bitter or anything. ;) ) I recently spent 18 months working as part of a team installing a new business system company-wide. I'm currently supposed to be working on a project which my boss' boss has promised to the board of directors.

At home, I'm going to have cable TV installed soon (which I haven't has since 1986), so I can get a cable internet connection. Then, hopefully, I'll be spending less time on these boards during work hours (and I won't come in to work on weekends anymore just to use the connection at my desk). I follow many types of motor sport, although my heart belongs to Formula One. I also am a fan of American football, though my favorite team holds the dubious distinction of being the only team to have lost the championship game four times in a row. I have been riding a bicycle to work (walking during the six months of winter) for the last 7+ years. I don't currently own a car.

As the above demonstrates, I can also be self-involved and easily get carried away.

Ok, I'll bite...

I'm 26, living in a small town in Mid-Missouri where I supervise a GIS lab for the Farm Services Agency of the USDA. This is after going to college where I studied Commercial Art and then Social Sciences with Education. (I never finished, working on that as well. However, this time I'm dual majoring in CIS and Geography.)

Right now, I'm not gaming as much as I'd like between work and trying to buy a house. When I am gaming I play with my old high school science teacher, his wife, and two kids that graduated a couple years after me in high school. We're playing a D20 Modern Rifts campaign with plenty of Star Wars and D&D thrown in for good measure. We've also got a long running campaigns in Hero Quest, Warhammer Quest, and a short campaign in Mutants and Masterminds going as well.

I room with a guy I graduated with in a small apartment. I'm in between relationships right now (always on the lookout for the next ex-girlfriend!).

My hobbies mostly include writing (horror stories and RPG material mostly), hiking, and playing computer games. I love watching baseball and wish I would've taken it more seriously back when I used to play. I also watch a lot of football (American football that is), NASCAR (yep, I'm a hick), hockey, and rodeo.

I guess that's about it.

Ah, nicely hidden under 6 pages of thread I'll actually post.
I've been trying to be more of a community member then a lurker lately.

I'm Ryan, 23 living in a small town outside of Albany NY. Yes there exists a whole state outside of NY city. I'm one of the computer guys (ie, repair, maintenance, database design, server maintenance, and slave) for a non-profit school. It sounds worse then it is, I love it here. Its a million light years away from flipping burgers and popping over priced popcorn.

I've been gaming for 7 years and dming for all of them too. My first group had about 25 people and one dm. They asked for someone else to dm and I some how found myself in the dm chair. This is after a few months of D&D video game experience and 1 game of D&D:rolleyes: . Ah the days of high school D&D. I never really got the hang of 2e. I did enough to dm but players option just blew my mind. I've got 3e down tho.

Sure might as well add my info too.

43 yrs. old, married for 21 years to a girl I dated in Highschool. 2 lovely daughters (4 yrs & 19 months) both adopted from China.

Born and raised in western Michigan, land of the dutch and home to the Cristian Reformed Church of America :) Raised Catholic, switched to Luthernism later in life.

Work at a small manufactinging company for the last 18 years, currently doing IT/Cost Accounting/Credit among other things.

Started playing D&D when I was 15 (in 1976) with, of course, the old White Box set. Still playing with almost the same group as back then.

Outside of work/D&D/childern I am active in the SCA (Canton of Rimsholt, Barony of Andelcrag, Midrealm) main interests are rapier and brewing. Used to be a Landed Baron but am now just what is called "landless court trash" :) Not as active as I used to be, kids come first. For those that care here is my SCA name:
Baron Benedict of Beverly OBR, OW, OCK

i would like ot politely and vehemently disagree with this statement.

You may disagree, however, my point is validated, unfortuneately. I was being sarcastic because of the first guy, but the next two really take the cake.

Some of these links end up at sites with explicit language, and if you keep going, paintings. I am not linking to those sites, and there are other warnings way before you see anything sketchy. The fact that people can rip off other people's work and try to justify it at all is amazing. Not everyone can draw, paint, play guitar, etc, but anyone that tries on their own deserves credit, even if they have a lot of room for improvement.
