Ok, the deal here is misconception.

Xar plays music. I am a musician. By your posts, most of you do not play music. There's a difference between making subjective judgments based on taste and identifying skill. Claiming that Carter is a "lazy" drummer is retarded, as has been addressed. Dave's guitar work is tight, it might not sound complicated to the average listener, but to people who know what he's doing, he is a good player and very unique in his style. The whole band's style is against the so called corperate music conspiracy thing. Bands like Default, Nickelback, and Third Eye Blind are corperate rock. DMB is definitely NOT corperate rock. I will say thought that their Everyday album was pretty corperate and produced, but that album was a mistake.

If you analyze the chord progressions and values of the chords being played along with the arranging, you would see that DMB is closer to Jazz/Fusion then it is to rock. They are one of few bands today that has an imaginative rythm section that doesn't sound like a sample out of a computer.

As to whoever thinks that Russia has a wider variety of music then we do, I can only say don't let the radio and MTV dictate what you can listen to. There's lots of stuff out there, you just have to look for it. Check out your local music scene, there's always outstanding bands out there that haven't been signed because they're not in the mainstream.

Back to my main point: Players here music differently then "civilians." For example, I completely respect Bonnie Rait for her music, but I don't like it. I'm not so ignorant that I won't admit I respect her. I do disagree with the statement that she has advanced jazz though, trust me, she hasn't at all. But to claim that DMB has no talent just because you don't care for their style, that's just ignorant.

I'll get off my podium now.

Sepultura has an amazing drummer (Igor Cavallera), and some of the most stirring, primal, dance-across-the-fire beats have come from him, in my opinion.

Sadly, Sepultura has pretty much fallen apart due to some bizarre quabble they had with their former lead singer.. Now they seem to be in some sort of 'race' with Max (their former lead) to put as many 'friends' as they can on their records.. A sort of "Look who's MY friend guys" war that's gotten too silly.

But for true drumming, I'd have to say leave the band folks behind. Brazil and Africa have some more proficient drummers on the *street* than popular music seems to have today. Heck, take Kodo drumming from Japan! now THAT is drumming, and takes a lot of skill and power to pull off.

I note that someone else mentioned Soulfly. They aren't bad, but considering the singer is a bit of a baby about everything, and that he's had to change out entire bands even during recording because the band just couldn't take being around Max and his wife, it lessens the quality for me.

Oh, and just to slip my opinion on DMB in, I think they're great. I wish they'd play more of their tunes on the radio here instead of crotchety old goons like Ozzy, or AC/DC (Now *there* is a band who doesn't know more than 2 chords).

Well once again I will state that I firmly disagree. DMB is corp. rock. Just because they don't sound like Nickleback, and other etal, doesn't distance themselves from the fact that the push out the mindless drippy pop over and over again.

Personally I have performed with bands, worked for and worked with bands plenty of times. Why I have to state this for credability is stupid. So back of the I'm a musician therefore I know more than you. For all anyone knows you have a tin ear and play in a high school band, or you are the next best thing to being a music idol. This is a message board, no one is going to be able to verify your history.

"Civilians", Please.... your preaching to the choir.

And as for Bonnie Raitt advancing jazz, you need to go back and read my post. She has done more to remove the stereotyping of music and trying to stop the record industry from forcing artist into one "chart" or another.

Bonnie has crossed rock, country, R&B and folk into her own musical style. I could go on and on. But forget it. You already made up your mind, as I did about DMB.
