Our CoC campaign began last Friday!

Thanks to everyone who responded to my previous CoC thread with advice, suggestions, links, material, and various other useful points of reference. The insanity is set to commence Friday night at my place. I won't say more because Joshua Dyal (who frequents this forum) will be part of the fun.

A special thanks goes out to Barendd Nobeard, who for the umpteenth time in the nine or so months I've known him, came through with helpful gaming tools. You rock man !!

Good luck.

Just remember that CoC is a much different game than others and It does not always work perfectly for the GM the first time. Stick with it it will!

But it will be fun I promise.

Thanks for the encouragement! I plan on having a blast, and I've already warned the group to bear with me during my CoC GM learning phase. I'm a pretty competent GM in general, and with the advice & resources available here at EN World to draw on, I feel pretty confident.

No problem.

I have run D&D alot as well as V:TM and a few others, I just found that the subtle things were the most difficult to potray.

What module are you running, if that is not giving away too much?

I will probably introduce everyone to the campaign through a brief one shot adventure -- either Monte Cook's Infest or Brown Jenkin which is available at the WotC site. I trust that any of my players who read this will NOT go seeking these pdf modules out!!

As for the campaign, I seriously considered Innsmouth, but decided that I wasn't up for all of the necessary conversions no matter how simple they may be. Additionally, several of the players have read enough Lovecraft to know the insidious background of the scary little town, which bothered me. I fully believe this group can (and will) separate player knowledge from character knowledge, but part of the fun will be discovering the truth as things unfold...not knowing it going in to the campaign. Finally, I have several novice gamers and I thought the transition into roleplaying would be easier in a modern setting.

* SPOILERS BELOW, PLAYERS STAY OUT!! *

Sooooo, by way of a very long-winded response, I think we will work our way into Nocturnum after a few short adventures to build experience and set the tone.

Sounds like you're off to a great start - especially with where you're heading!

Any chance you'll run it at the next Gameday? :)

Later,
Matt

Glad you're usin' em! (Your players may not be so glad I sent them, though. :D)

It's just a natural progression from "Orc and Pie" t-shirts to "Call of Cthulhu" (for me, anyway). :p

Ack. Double post.

But, not to waste the space....

Yes, you must run some CoC at the next Gameday!

Thanks for the kind words!! Depending on how well this all begins, I just may run Infest or something of that ilk at the next Gameday. Encouragement and flattery will get you everywhere with this Ent :D.

An excellent beginning IMO. We all got to sit around chatting through a lovely dinner; an interesting mix of characters were created; and the campaign kicked off without a hitch.

I must say that I really like Infest on a variety of levels. It's a great way to quickly introduce characters of diverse backgrounds and different stations in life to one another. It necessitates that they begin working together almost instantly, without feeling forced or overly contrived. And it is a great genesis for any CoC campaign, with just the right touch of Mythos so early in the Investigators careers.

Hopefully my players had as much fun as I did!!
