Our first article for Dragon? :)

Fair enough. No sense debating a possible article, while stacks of conversions await! ;)

Says you, I liked the name I chose for the death god better (Nahrket sounds too Egyptian to me).

... Nhaskret?

Let me ask instead, why does the name I came up with need changing at all? If there is a good reason why "Kirenok" isn't a good name for a bugbear deity, then by all means, scrap it, but a name-change just for the sake of wanting to have named one of the deities doesn't strike me as being very fair at all.

waaah, i had picked names for the death and earth gods before you posted, but you beat me to it. ;) i guess that was my bad on the timing, perhaps it seemed like i came in and said "no way, i get first pick!"

kirenok is not a bad name in and of itself, but it doesn't seem to fit as well with the others, in my opinion. the vowel sounds and pronunciations for the other names seem to match better. crahliss is an exception, but that is a name for a female which also seems to work.

do you really have your heart set on it? nothing is set in stone yet - and who knows, the dragon editors could go "these three names suck, let's change em" anyway. ;) i'm a reasonable guy, we can talk things over.

Fair enough. Thanks for being so even-handed about it.

I admit "Kirenok" doesn't sound quite like the other bigbear names (which bear a strong resemblance to grunting). The names you suggested do sound okay, but I'd add more hard consonants, especially towards the beginning. Also, while Grankhul's name may have a silent "h" in there, this seems somewhat abberant from the usual rule, since most of their names seem to only use letters that are pronounced.

Either way, the name isn't set in stone, and I'm certainly open to discussing changes.

Khar(e)nok? the "kir" part was what was bothering me - not gutteral enough. ;)

i had also chosen "Rumurrl" for the earth god (sounds like a rumbling below the earth, no?) but i liked Otu's name better. :)

Yeah, I thought Kirenok actually sounded more kobold than bugbear... like Dakarnok, Gaknulak, etc. Kharenok sounds nice IMHO.

I'd see the "earth and cavern" deity as another goddess, myself. An old crone of a goddess, looking like a withered old bugbear woman. And I'd give her Magic rather than Strength as a domain.
