Our own Top 10 Sci-Fi characters of all time

Since everyone seemed to disagree with SFX's (great mag, BTW - I get it all the time) Top 10 Sci-Fi Characters, I thought we might as well find out who our Top 10 Sci-Fi characters our.

First we need to compile a list. So, post your nominations below. Just post the name and the show/film/book from whence the character came - no commentary for now, please. All I'm doing is trying to get a list together - which means that you can list characters even if you don't think they should be in the Top 10. After all, somebody else mght want to vote for them!

I'll leave this thread going for a couple of days, and then close it and start a poll. Any name not posted in this thread doesn't get into the poll on the very dubious premise that if no one thought o add them in that time then they can't be very good...

Are we doing only sci-fi (as opposed to the notion that sci-fi includes fantasy)?

Now, some people would argue that Star Wars is more fantasy than sci-fi (myself included), but just in case it counts:
