Woke up with exceedingly dry sinuses and the spectre of a cold after a night of poor sleep. I'm not confident about the gym tonight, which sucks because I felt yesterday's session went very well. :(

Stayed home, rested, and dosed up with NyQuil. I'm glad I did: last night was rough in terms of sleep, and I've definitely come down with some kind of head cold/sore throat.

So, since the pandemic, I've noticed that I don't tend to get sick much anymore. At least, that was the case until I switched gyms. I'm pretty sure the student gym at my U is a petri dish of nigh-weapons grade viruses. I think come February I'm switching to the townie gym. The equipment there is nowhere near as good, but the lack of crowds is probably worth it. Also, the parking situation around game days makes the student gym inaccessible far too frequently.

No gym yesterday, likely not today either. No appointments over the weekend however so I should be able to get in there twice.

I struggle when my patterns are altered by forces outside my control.

I did get back in last night. Drop sets to failure on most of it again like usual.

Three sets Smith inclined barbell bench with drop sets, three sets machine biceps curls with drop sets on the latter two, three sets of machine rear delt flies with drop sets on the middle one (still dialing in the weight on this exercise as I get comfortable), three sets of machine should press with a drop set on the last one.

I think I want to go again Saturday, based on other weekend commitments, and try to hit some legs and back.

I think more than anything else, that's the thing that was bothered me most since I re-started working out in September. Now the fourth quarter of the year is notoriously busy, but still, it's quite annoying that I have been unable to get back to a regular pace of three trips to the gym a week.

Adding maybe a word of warning for people (re-)starting with running: if you are relatively heavy and you are not doing anything else that strengthens your muscles, you can easily get trouble with your knees. I tried three times earlier this year, and while I was able to get past the "what are you doing, your death is imminent!" feeling relatively quickly, even very careful increases in distance didn't help the issues with my right knee that popped up after a few weeks. So ideally, spare yourself some pain and maybe add a bit of strength workout for your legs to complement your running.
