D&D 5E Out of the Abyss OOC

Re: the rusted iron bar passed by Brinn to Solace, I'll stat it up this evening and will post it here. You'll need to know what damage die to use and whether it's a finesse and/or light weapon. More later from me on this.

GlassEye, the flint shard does damage as per the dagger in the PHB. lowkey13 and Kobold Stew, the very rusty iron bar does damage as per the club in the PHB.

I was all set to homebrew stats, then had a look at the weapons table in the PHB and realized that would be foolhardy. The dagger and club stats perfectly encapsulate the jist of what I'd planned to do.

I'm about to hunker down for the night with a copy of Moby Dick, but before I do, a new Unearthed Arcana came out today. Unearthed Arcana: That Old Black Magic. I read through it and it is hereby incorporated into the approved source material for this campaign. I'll edit it into both the OP of this thread, and the links section on the Community.

So, you know, at least you'll have wicked cool character options to draw on when it comes time to replace a character who bites the dust.

Just wanted to say that I've been enjoying reading the journal entries you've posted, CanadienneBacon. They're a great idea and encouraging to read.

It's funny that you say that.. I was about to send her a PM saying the same thing. Fantastic stuff. I get a little excited every time I log on now to see what's going on here.

Thanks ever so much for the kind words about the journal, GlassEye and industrygothica (and Yavathol, who messaged me a little while back with similar excitement). That's an encouragement to me that people are using the Community, reading the journal, and want to hear more. I'll try to continue with short journal entries on at least a M-F basis. Shorter is better for long term sustainability, I reckon.
industrygothica, you ask about passive Perception and whether it'll work for the roll I called for in the IC. Yeah, actually, because of the repetitive nature of what you're rolling for, passive perception will get it. Thanks for the prompt. But don't forget that, per PHB 175, disadvantage on a passive Perception check means -5 to the character's passive Perception score. Interestingly, if you had advantage, you'd get +5 on the check. I don't think that tidbit had really registered with me prior to today. Still learning!
