Outlaw Press stolen artwork accusations

Huh. The artwork used as the cover for Hobbit Hole #1 is the same artwork from Knowledge Arcana #5 when it was the WotC forum e-zine, pre-Gleemax. I had a story in that issue. Does anyone know if Hobbit Hole #1 just used that cover artwork for its purposes, or did it possibly reuse some of the content of KA#5?

Oh oh. This brings to mind another individual (previously associated with KA) who was deeply confused about copyrights, trademarks, etc.

As a side note, Treebore, you might have some success if your lawyer can contact whomever it is whomever it is processing the copyright violator's payments.

As in, if they take MasterCard, contact MasterCard; if they take PayPal, contact Paypal- and then tell them that your wife holds the copyright for X piece, which is being illegally distributed by Fill In the Blank website. With enough proof of your claim, you may be able to shut down their ability to accept money for their downloads...effectively shutting them down.

At least temporarily.

Do you know the violator's country of origin/operations? You may get better traction with a lawyer who is a local.

They seem to be multi national, or at least they give 3 different addresses for contact in 3 countries. So we are going to have to research their "home" country.

Stepping out of the books on this one...

I contributed to, and KA#5 was released, well prior to that individual showing up, and the drama that followed.

You might be able to contact their ISP with the info you have, again, with the hopes of shutting down their ability to get paid.

Yes, but if memory serves correctly, after he showed up, he claimed that he owned all KA content so far published including, but not limited to, stories, rules, and artwork. That said, let us speak no more of this, for the individual in question is not unlike Y'golonac.

Revelations of Glaaki said:
. . . when his name is spoken or read he comes forth to be worshipped or to feed and take on the shape and soul of those he feeds upon. For those who read of evil and search for its form within their minds call forth evil, and so may Y'golonac return to walk among men . . .

;)

Outlaw Press... (reportedly) breaks copyright law. It's ironic in the Alanis Morissette sense (that being that it's not ironic, but instead implied by the very name of the company.)

OK, I'll pass the idea on and see what they say.
FWIW, you could also tell your lawyers to find out who is hosting their website, and send them a formal email letting them know one of their customers is illegally distributing copyrighted works. I remember stuff like that working before- but it was by pretty big companies, no idea how it'd go for a standard human.

You could easily find out the name of the site's owner, registrar, and host through whois.com.
