Magnificent Egos has some really nice mine. Some of the best minis on the market, but they certainly don't have the selcetion Reaper has.

The discontinued Mage Knight line are great. You can get them cheap on e-bay from various seller's stores. Check out the website and look through the figure gallery for desired minis.
http://www.wizkidsgames.com/mageknight/ I would recommend the newer sets as the sculpts and paintjobs are much better. These can be rebased or covered with glue and flock.
Check out the heroscape game http://www.hasbro.com/heroscape/ for some more great figures for relatively cheap. I found a $20 set at walmart that had a dracolich, green dragon and a few other sweet monsters.
As far as DDM you should be able to get lots of commons and uncommons for pretty cheap (as with the mage knight just keep an eye on the seller's shipping prices..)
Toy stores are great for dire animals, dinosaurs, and vermin. Happy hunting!
