Outsider type vs. Explaplanar subtype: Key differences?

OK, quick question:

I think I know the answer to ths, but I need some confirmation: I know that a character/creature with the Outsider type can't be raised/resurrected/etc. (except by means of a wish/miracle, etc.). What about characters/creatures with the Extraplanar subtype (like githzerai)? Do they have the same problems?

What about when it comes to things like a sword of the planes; I know it has a higher bonus vs. Outsiders, but does it have a high bonus against characters with the Extraplanar subtype (for example, like the aforementioned githzerai)?

Also, would characters from other Prime Material planes be considered to have the Extraplanar subtype in another Prime Material plane--for example, would a human fighter from Greyhawk/Oerth suddenly gain the Extraplanar subtype if he appeared/travelled to the Forgotten Realms/Toril?

Just trying to determine the effect/impact that having Extraplanar subtype has on a character/creature. Appreciate any help/info/opinions/insight/etc. that y'all could provide. Thanks!

"Extraplanar" isn't really a subtype like the others, although it looks like it. An extraplanar creature is any creature that's on a plane other than its own.

So a balor on the prime material is extraplanar and can be affected by dismissal, banishment, etc. A balor in the Abyss, however, is not extraplanar. Conversely, a human paladin on the prime material would not be extraplanar, but that same paladin in the Abyss would be extraplanar.

If you start doing stuff like joining one campaign world to another, you'll have to define exactly what implications this has on your own. You could say that Toril and Oerth exist in different prime material planes, or you could say they're different worlds in the same plane. You're the DM, you make the rules.

Right. For example, star elves (from Unapproachable East) are extraplanar, but not outsiders. Therefore, they can be raised, resurrected, etc. They are not affected by things that only affect outsiders, because they are humanoids, not outsiders.

And furthermore, not all outsiders would be extraplanar when on the Prime Material. For example, native outsiders (planetouched and genasi) are not extra-planar when on the Prime Material, but are outsiders. (Of course, native outsiders can be raised and resurrected, though.)

So, there's absolutely no correlation between extraplanar and outsider, even if the vast majority of outsiders would be labelled as extraplanar when they arrive on the Prime Material plane.
