Which still doesn't make any sense. Why would they name their home for that reason?

You know how there are many tribal societies that call themselves "The People" in their own language?

Naming your region of the world "The Forgotten Realms" would be like a tribe called "The Other People," or "Everybody Else."

I'm certainly no Realms expert/apoogist - but do many in the Realms refer to it (in lore/fiction) as the "Forgotten Realms"? Wouldn't most simply use Faerun or Abeir-Toril? Maybe Elminster does, but he certainly does enough world-hopping that he could probably realize the Realms have been "Forgotten" by others. The people in Dragonlance always call it Krynn, Birthright as Cerilia, etc...

In any event, I think FireLance won the thread. I got some funny looks after my laugh.

To the inhabitants of the Forgotten Realms, they are not called "The Forgotten Realms". They are the Forgotten Realms to the few folk who remember them here, as in "Forgotten by all others".
