Packs of robots will hunt down uncooperative humans

It would be kind of Lord of the Rings, wouldn't it? Two mighty robotic armies clashing, one tromping up from California, the other encamped in the Seattle suburbs. With the leaders in the Pentagon watching closely...

So Steve Jobs is the one controlling the killer robots!?!? WE'RE DOOMED!
What do you mean "we"? Not I, says the Apple-Hater.

Anyhoo (on-topic)...

When can I get my own personal Asimo robot? Come on, Honda! I already owned one of your (albeit 1997) cars. I need something to kill rats at night while I'm sleeping.

I'm a PC and I fear Snow Leopards armed with death-ray-laser-cannons and reality distortion rays...
I'm a Linux and I fear nothing.

Just kidding...Linux is a terrible thing to do to a computer.

Really, I'm more of a 486 with a CRT monitor that is slowly making me sterile, and I'm afraid of whatever the television tells me to be.

First off, many of the "so called" requirements of the US Army's Future Combat Systems are GROSSLY misquoted, both in implementation and use.
There are no plans to make a single Soldier the nexus for a large robot attack force, but there are plans to use robots in SUPPORT positions - forward observing for artillery, urban scouting and the like, jobs which are currently done by humans and are EXTREMELY hazardous; they are already in use in some aspects of bomb disposal.

All of these robots are not independently tasked with AI, but are remote controlled, much like the Predator unmanned recon aircraft. Steve Wright is a known crackpot and has been under surveillance by British official at the behest of the US gov't for years. He has a real knack for overstating the "Big Brother" aspect. Noel Sharkey however, is not one to be ignored for his views on AI.

Having read the original 2007 DoD document the aim is to automate certain sub-stems (such as Air Defense and Missile Defense systems, aerial reconnaissance drones and the like.) I believe that the intended use of said systems is being overstated and blown WAY out of proportion by said columns.
