WOTC Press Releasehttp://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/news/20070419a

Quote: “Today the internet is where people go to get this kind of information,” said Scott Rouse, Senior Brand Manager of Dungeons & Dragons®, Wizards of the Coast. “By moving to an online model we are using a delivery system that broadens our reach to fans around the world. Paizo has been a great partner to us over the last several years. We wish them well on their future endeavors.”
But ONLY to owners of debit/credit cards.

So, where does that leave the rest of us?

So will WotC take all of these thousands of submissions that Paizo is too busy to handle and possibly use them?

Will articles like Core Beliefs, Ecologies, Class Acts, etc now be available at WotC's site after September?

We already have Sage Advice (daily too, very nice) and Dragonshards (better than Dragon IMO) already there.

In fact, I just ran one of their free online adventures last week using MapTool.

Maybe this bodes well for the RPGA too. Perhaps they can republish some of the old RPGA adventures, cleaning them up with new maps and making them available as "Dungeon" adventures.

Silver lining I suppose.

Maybe something like the RPGA, but a "Dungeon" MMO. You create a character in a database they maintain, they sanction DMs, and users can use a VGT they develop (very easy to do really, heck they could use MapTool if they wanted since it's open source) to log in, get reward points, learn to play, etc.

Dragon has been a part of my gaming hobbies for a long time. I can still remember the first issue that I bought - Issue 73. I can remember riding my bike to the (not so) local hobby store to pick up new (and back) issues when I had the money to do so, I started subscribing on issue 78, and picked up Dungeon from the begining as well. I feel a little odd.

The content of both Dungeon and Dragon has been excellent over the last several years. I truely hope that Wizards can manage to transform their website into something as easy to use as a magazine.

I also wish the fine folks at Paizo the best - everyone of them that I have met a conventions have been pleasent and friendly.

I'll let him know. He's the dude that's selling Fantasia on the Paizo site. :D

Cool! We're also launching a PIP (Package Insert Program) to offer limited space for folks to direct-market their products to our customer base. As this will be orders of magnitude less expensive than a full page ad in the magazines, I'm hoping we can provide an inexpensive way for the hobby channel to tell new folks about their products.

Erik,

Your product's strength was not that 100% approved thingie in the corner. It was the quality of your work.

If you are behind this and will field the same lebvel of quality and writing? I'll buy Pathfinder- But I am truly worried about the lack of a major print magazine with advertiing. The hobby games trade needs a means to advertise new products to people effectively. Dragon and Dungeon were that platform.

I'm with ya man. You put it out - I'll buy it.

This whole thing smells like treachery though.

Looks like someone has been drinking to the demise of Dragon/Dungeon since the news broke.

;)

I think the one thing I find most shocking about this is the lack on any presence by WotC on this. Josh and James have been all over this thread.

Which was the final reason why I decided to buy Pathfinder. Paizo has always treated me right, and I can see concern for their customers in this thread. :D

Besides, I'm still laughing from the time they were snowed in and asked us to decide which of them should go into the cookpot. That's the kind of people I want to support with my hard earned pesos.

That's another reason for WotC to get rid of the magazine. It hurts the competition that needs it for advertising.

D--Dungeon
W--Wilderness
E--Event
J--Journey
U--Urban

And so on. So, D1 would be our first Dungeon adventure and W2 would be our second wilderness adventure etc.
Wow. A whole line of urban adventures is really exciting to me. If you guys occasionally dip your toes into some of established published cities, like Freeport or Ptolus, my brain might well explode.
