Pathfinder 1E Paizo no longer publishing Dungeon and Dragon

The money that show brought in wasn't worth having our sales guy out of the office for a week, basically.

We'll still be selling all of that other stuff for as long as we've got 'em. The Dungeon T-shirts and Dragon shot glasses were ours. The super-awesome "alignment" D&D shot glass you sometimes see was a promotional freebie for the 3e launch distributed at that Gen Con. The T-shirts and Dragon shot glass are, I believe, available now at paizo.com in the "Paizo Exclusives" section.

Wow ... just remembering my "Dungeon" t-shirt ... with the caption "True to the Game" emblazoned on it ... has made me all depressed again. :\

Geez. Just when I was getting back into both magazines... :(

Pathfinder sounds interesting though. I just hope the price doesn't rise too much for overseas folks.

Not to paint anybody in a negative light, but I have to admit that I'm definitely getting that feeling of sick realization much like when you realize that your fellow party member has one eye and is missing one hand and is named "Vance".

Just the sudden confluence of WotC looking into online distribution and Paizo having big announcements and the bar on publishing the Age of Worms Adventure Path all coming together. Strange.

What a sad day. This blows AND sucks at the same time. I can't believe WotC would be stupid, or malicious, enough to do this. Both Dungeon and Dragon are institutions within the greater D&D community. They nurtured countless writers and artists, some of whom now work for WotC.

I am really wishing the worst for WotC at this moment, but hoping that Dungeon and Dragon will one day return to Paizo.

Wik,

No it is (a betrayal),because at no point did WotC say "Well hey we might offer an online magazine to you and then cancel Dragon/Dungeon if it goes well." They just did it and no explanation was given.

Well, I hate to get into a battle of semantics, but it's not really a betrayal. So what if they never said "we're going to do x" before they did it? That's not really a betrayal. I agree that what they did sucks, and is going to alienate a fair number of fans (I'm one of them....Dungeon and Dragon are two of the reasons I buy D&D books...) But to call it a "betrayal" is a bit off, to me.

I don't feel betrayed... I feel angry. I feel tired about it all. And, really, I feel (and this is weird) that D&D itself has lost some of it's appeal.

Amy,

I think you mean ban more than bar but I get your sickening feeling. Still I had thought even if there wasn't an AoW AP HC, Dungeon and Dragon would remain...

Rangerman,

They have ointment for that.

Steel,

Dude, you are so right about this being a thoughtless move.

Azure,

You can get it via Amazon if you want it cheaper.

Wik,

It might be mechanics to you, but to me, when it comes to things you rely on, especially when it's been around a while (much like having a friend you can trust) and then find it's not there...that's pretty much betrayal in my book.

You might feel otherwise, that's fine. But I call it as I see it.

Mech,

Yeah well keeping hope. I don't think it will happen. I'm still waiting for Ravenloft to come back, or Dark Sun. So far, neither has occurred.

This is perhaps one of the worst PR moves in the history of gaming...

I am not sure WotC realized what this would do...

Now for gamers who dont go to the web... who is paizo going to inform them of these changes?

Wrath,

I think it will be us the informed some how. Maybe we should take out front page ads in USA Today. :p ;)

Reg,

 Mm forgot about that one. Good point.
