While Paizo should not be held accountable for some of the jackassish comments found on their boards toward anyone who's willing to give 4E a try, the harbor for such malcontents has - fairly or not - labeled them as an anti- company.

Sad but true

Wow, I'm sure there's a joke somewhere in here about a ring of conclusion jumping. :)

I know a lot of people (myself included) are anxiously awaiting the decision of Paizo (and other companies) but for one thing, I'd hope they spend more than a single morning reading the rules before they made a decision. For another thing, this isn't exactly the first time Paizo (or any other website) has gone down for a couple hours.

Lastly, they are on the Pacific coast. So if the site is down in the morning on the eastern side of the US, that means either someone at Paizo has to drag their butt into work REALLY early, or it'll stay broke until lunchtime/early afternoon Eastern.

As someone who has dealt with websites as my career for the past decade, I can assure you that the hamsters probably just got tired. When someone got into the office, they just pulled the old ones out and put in new ones. I keep telling them to upgrade to dire hamsters, they've done wonders for the sites where I work, but we're also a major university and can afford the latest technology. Paizo keeps trying to go old school and summon up fiendish hamsters for their upgrades, but summoning just doesn't work like it used to. :)

I had some trouble logging on myself this morning, but I think it was just a server burp. The site loads fine now.

We still don't have the GSL. It has nothing whatsoever to do with that.

Iquander would have the GSL by now. Just saying... ;)

The order that WotC gave was:
Indicate Interest
Sign an NDA
Get the GSL
Decide if you're going to pay $5K
Get the Rules.

Paizo and others have said they signed the NDA and no one has publickly said they have the licence yet. I imagine the licence will be short enough to read in a single morning.

Wouldn't Paizo read the rules before making a decision? So they'd go through all of the above steps before making an announcement?

I'd imagine that as long as WotC was ready to deliver the rules quickly once requested, I still expect a week minimum to read and discuss the rules, business plans, etc. before making and announcing a decision. Maybe Paizo has prepared itself to burn through the reading and absorbing the rules phase much faster, but I doubt they'd make such a big decision without taking a fair amount of time to fully read, digest, and play 4e first. But that's just my assumption if I were in their shoes.

Either way, it's moot. The site was just broken. WotC will finish the GSL someday, and Paizo will announce their plans someday after that. All we can do is sit back and wait. :)
