Paladin and his mount

when asked why he is doing this he said "Cause i said so, thats why" amd he got very defensive about it. "I make the rules and you have to live by them". So as you can see im royally pissed off

How old is your DM? 12? Granted we are only seeing one side, but the above posts makes me thing that establishing a more open line of give and take communication isn't really an option.

How do the other players in the group feel about this situation?

definatly frustrating, especially since you asked him (apperently politely) why he chose to make such a rule and his responce seemed to be "It's my sandbox I'll play how I like". You might want to try explaining to him that a paladin's mount is an intreinsic part of the character concept and retarding the usefulness of a mount would be like ruling that fireball does D4 damage rather than D6 or TWF only worked if both weapons were light.

The DM's being pretty unreasonable. I don't care for the flavor of the ability either, but having played a paladin in previous editions, I know how necessary it is. You can't simply take the horse with you everywhere, and it's not your fault if he gets killed during that time.

You need to have a serious talk with your DM. If he's not willing to back down, either find a new DM or kill your character and make a new one in a class he doesn't hate.

This is a very bad sign. Your DM is changing the rules and he doesn't want to talk about it. That's bad.

Try again to talk to him and if he still doesn't care about what you think, find another group. The way I see it, the problem goes beyond the rules of the game. There's a problem with how he's interacting on the social level.

Quoted foor truth, even if it is a bit late to off the character... probably.

honestly i dont see why me not being able to dismiss my mount would be part of the plot for our characters. I learned of this rule change during game play. We went to go into a dungeon and i started to dismiss my horse and call him we we left the dungeon. Well it didnt work that way. He told me upfront that if something happened to my horse that i would suffer.

Just an FYI, I do not allow Paladins to dismiss their mounts. Ever. And I do not allow them to call a new one for two years after it dies, and if they allowed it to die knowingly, they DO suffer.

But the rest of the stuff might just be plot hook - has he taken away your paladin powers? I mean seriously, if he's got it in for your character then the powers should be gone.

Talk to him, see what's going on.

But why? It's supposed to be one of the features of the class. Do you similarly restrict other classes like this?

And I do not allow them to call a new one for two years after it dies

Now this is unfair. You make it harder for them to ensure that their mount stays safe, and then you punish them when it dies?

If the GM has that much of a thing against the special mount, then ask him if you can trade that ability for something else agreeable to the two of you. Either that, or buy him a nice present on his 13th birthday.

Agreed. If you're going to restrict a Class like that, without similarly restricting other classes, then the least the GM could do is provide an alternative to the power (In addition to telling you ahead of time. Any DM who lets a player pick a Paladin to play at 1st level, and doesn't tell the player about his house rule, only to spring it on them when they hit 5th level, is a jerk).

Either that, or buy him a nice present on his 13th birthday.

ROTFLMAO!!!
