Actually, I have a Strike Baren spell in one of my books. :)

The spell is in Necromancy: Beyond the Grave. Apparently, it's a favorite spell of Witches, cursing individuals with the inability to sire children.

Now, true, this may seem like a good thing, but when a dragon needs to make little half-dragons for minons, a king needs heirs, a local town's population is dieing out... :)

Breath Weapon (Su): A silver dragon has two types of breath weapon, a cone of cold or a cone of paralyzing gas. Creatures within the latter must succeed at a Fortitude save or be paralyzed for 1d6 rounds plus 1 round per age category of the dragon.
Take a good look at the paralysis gas. Every 1d4 rounds.

Sounds like Ghoul touch, Sleep, or Greater sleep to me. Wanna know how many times an 8th level sorceror can cast THAT? :)

And, I'd think paralyzing gas would be a much better weapon for a paladin. Taking people alive is much easier.

But granted, a very young or young dragon is a force to be reckoned with. Just like a dire lion. HOWEVER, this is a CR 4 or 6 creature in a lvl 8 or 10 party. The paladin would have to do without a mount for 3 to 5 levels. And, there's one big drawback too: The dragon's Hoard.

According to Defenders of the Faith, this dragon mount must have a hoard of atleast 1,000 gp per HD, for it to stay loyal. So that means for a Very young dragon, it has to have 10,000 GP. A Young? 13,000. Not to mention when the dragon becomes his Special Mount, and thus gains +2 HD from 5th level to 12th, thus raising the cash. Now, who's shelling that out of his pocket? The Paladin? That kinda change can really hurt. I could have a +2 weapon for less then that.

What's Greater Sleep? As for Ghoul Touch or Sleep, those don't really count :) Ghoul Touch requires the sorc to enter melee, and Sleep just isn't a good idea for a sorc.

Besides, it's like a Haste spell. The sorcerer could use an attack spell, and the dragon can also attack.

You have a very good point there. Unfortunately, the sorcerer in question wasn't lawful good. Certainly not after he murdered homeless people. He got slapped by the strongest compulsion spell I could find at the time a punishment - it lasts forever, too.

That was part of my mistake. The sorcerer was only 7th-level. Was the dragon mount only supposed to be taken by a paladin?

Greater Sleep is in the Book of Eldrich Might. 3rd level, just like Sleep, but effects 4d6 of HD, with a cap of 10 HD.

I also have to wonder why you let him have a Silver dragon if he wasn't acting Good. The dragon would have left, because despite it being his familiar, it's still a sentient creature with it's own aligment. A NG dragon ain't going to hang out with a bunch of murdering Evil characters. As I recall, the Improved Familiar feat requires aligment matches.

Yes. By the rules in Defenders of the Faith, a paladin looking to make this dragon his SPECIAL MOUNT has to go through a lot. Giving the dragon Gold (See my last post at the end; I editted it), he has to treat it like a dragon, not a mount, and it's His Mount. A small paladin can call a Very Young dragon to him at 8th level. A Young at 10th. And with the Leadership feat, level 12, but then the dragon isn't his mount.

It hasn't happened yet; I'm just speculating. I simply think that the inter-reaction between a Kobold paladin and his Silver dragon mount could be very interesting. :) Sort've a bastian or blessing from his God. Not to mention the ability to Polymorph, which says to me, the ability to become humanoid and go into places, as aposed to leaving the Special Mount outside of dungeons or in stables, etc etc.

Heck, I could see the paladin falling in love with the dragon. :)
