Paladin Feat help

Indeed. Great Cleave seems to be a bit limited in practical applications, but every game where I've seen a character with Cleave, it usually gets used several times per session, and not just for fighting mooks.

Divine Might at level 3, a CHA boosting item as soon as possible and Battle Blessing at level 6 if you can get your hands on it ;)

Cleave at level 3 and Divine Might at 6 is probably your way to go though.

Paladin can't get Divine Might till 6th level. And Battle Blessing isn't SRD.

And I already have my 6th level feat picked out - Extra Turning, for the PrC req.

Cleave is looking more and more like it.

Cleave is a free attack anytime you drop a foe, whether it takes you 5 hits or 1 hit to drop a foe, and extra attack is an extra attack.

Great Cleave on the other hand is only useful if you can drop a foe in one shot...

.... when there is another foe within reach.... But I still reckon the bonus attacks are worth the feat investment.

I agree with Cleave. If you have a spare feat and you already have Power Attack, its a pretty solid choice. Yeah, you need to be fighting multiple foes who are both within reach, but unless you routinely fight single monsters, this should come up at least once or twice every few combats. And not just regular foes - if an enemy conjurer or druid is bringing buddies to the fight with Summon Whatever, you can drop one of them and then take an extra attack on something else.

Plus, cleave is a great way to use your low initiative to your advantage. You'll soon be at the point where wizards are flinging fireballs. Well, how's this for your low initiative being handy:

Wizard: Fireball a half-dozen people... maybe kill one or two, but most of them are standing with relatively few hit points.

Your Paladin: Charge into the biggest group, power attack one enemy, drop him, and then hit another enemy.

Going after the wizard helps you in this case. And folks think you need a high initiative to win... ;)

Not only is cleave really usefull, but you get to cry out "I CLEAVE!" when you use it. That's almost worth a feat slot by itself! :D

Seriously, Cleave is a great feat.

How many times has Cleave saved Ironwolf and Hulgyr's bacon in LEW, do you reckon?
