Paladin level loss

Hello. I was wondering that if a paladin loses a level and goes from level 5 to 4, does the paladin lose his special bonded mount? If so, does he have to wait the one year and one day to reclaim his mount? If he doesn't have to wait the one year and a day, can he then turn around and then decide if he wants to now go after a "better" mount when he retains level 5 again?

um - okie...

i am presuming that you have actually failed the roll from the energy drain attack here.

The special bonded mount loses it's powers - and becomes a normal horse. The horse does not "die" - nor is it dismissed - so the "year and a day rule" does not apply.

The same is true for multiclass wizards whose first class wasn't wizard getting drained sufficently to lose all wizard levels.

It also could be said that the player loses the benefits of the ability (ie the horse "goes away" for a time), until they regain the level.
This helps with the problem with the horse being a extraordinary intellegent beast one day, and a plain old nag the next, and then a week later being back to its old self.

In MY own game I would say the mount remains a quasi intelegent lawful good magical beast without the "specia"l abilities. it will remember the rider and treat him as apropriate.

losing such a pinacle level [Pal 5] sucks enough!
