Paladin/monk feat ala Comp Scoundrel

First Post
I just picked up complete scoundrel and was intrigued by the feats that allow multiclass synergy. Specifically the feats ascetic stalker, daring outlaw, daring warrior, martial stalker, ect.
I also really liked the prestige class in Faiths of Eberron that allowed the multiclassing of paladin/monk, but when looking at it realized that it would make for a very weak character. It seems that a feat that would work somewhat as the above mentioned feats for the monk/paladin would work better.
So, how do people think the feat would work? Would allowing monk/paladin levels stack for the purpose of unarmed damage/Ki strike and Lay on Hands/smite evil be too much?
Oh, and I realize that MAD would be insane for a character like this, but put that aside for this discussion.

Rather than Prestige classes, this is always how I preferred that WotC implement multiclassing between non-synergistic classes.

Except for both needing Wisdom, I don't think Paladin and Monk have very much synergy at all. The big problem though is that Paladin is heavy front ended, so you don't want to make splashing Paladin for Divine Grace, Divine Health, and detect evil (collectively worth more than any one feat) too attractive of an option. I wouldn't have a big problem with making that one feat, but as a DM I tend to be conservative about making things too easy on the PC's and I'd probably break that into two feats - one for paladin levels counting toward monk unarmed attack progression and the other for monk levels counting toward lay on hands/smite evil progression.

The synergy does exist... not a ruleswise synergy, but a flavorwise synergy ;)

It's a stylish multiclass combination that's not supported by the game mechanics... one has heavy armor, the other class has none... one uses all weapons, the other none... Yet paladins are essentially knightly monastic/monk orders.

I agree, which is why I really want to try one;)

They have fantastic saving throw synergy... the one in my game is depressingly hard to kill. Evasion + Divine Grace = BBEG sorcerer tears. :(

I've also made a PrC for pretty much exactly his character, but you're welcome to it if you want. It's tied to a sun-god religion, which is pretty generic I guess. :)

sure...I'd be interested in taking a look. post it here or e-mail to my screen name here @aol
Only thing....if I like it can you provide me a dm so I can play it? :D

I played a normal Pally/Monk -- the saves were indeed everything I could ask for, but he was just too darn fragile. The fact that Wisdom, Charisma, and Dexterity kinda HAVE to be prime stats, and that Strength and Constitution are fairly important if you want to survive in a fight, meant that you were spreading yourself awfully thin.

He died relatively early in Speaker in Dreams after the DM took the module's instructions of "These guys target the least-armored person in the party" quite literally -- my pallymonk died while the heavily armored warrior-dude whomped through everything.

Ech.

At least in 3.5, I'd consider a feat allowing both levels to stack for Lay on Hands and Unarmed Damage to be not-overpowered.
