They have fantastic saving throw synergy... the one in my game is depressingly hard to kill. Evasion + Divine Grace = BBEG sorcerer tears.

I've also made a PrC for pretty much exactly his character, but you're welcome to it if you want. It's tied to a sun-god religion, which is pretty generic I guess.

Had a Ftr/Rog who headed towards that paladin prestige class ... and he had Cha 20.

Fort +20 before reaching level 10 was sick

And yes, he had evasion too.

Is it perhaps worth pointing out that you get many of the benefits of the Monk class even when wearing armour? Pal 4 / Mk 4 / Divine Crusader (Instinct) could be awesome (possibly drop a level of each and add Ftr 2). All those True Strikes (hehehe). You take the Monk levels for the special abilities, the saves, and the extra skill points, not the unarmed combat.

Doesn't the Argent Fist give the benefits of the Ascetic Knight feat? Pretty sure it does...

I have a monk/paladin synergy prestige class, too! I thought that I had previously posted it in the house rules forum, but I don't see it when I look around... maybe I will go post it there now and link it!
