Paladin Mount alternate abilities

Has anyone made or seen rules for changing out a paladin's mount for weapons, abilities, or something like that?

The revision mount ability is basically a summon monster spell for a certain amount of time per day. It would be easy to substitute summoning a planar ally of some kind, for those paladins who aren't necessarily mounted knights.

You could also allow him to apply the celestial or half-celestial template for a similar amount of time/day.

3.5E turns the mount into a temporary summoned creature as a sort of spell-like ability.

This sucks, IMO.

Now, IMC we TOTALLY reworked the Paladin mount rules. Basically, you call a mount at some point, and it increases its abilties every level. You get some choice in how it progresses, and the abilities tend to be a bit more defensive in nature, plus extra movement abilities.

Rather than retype it all here, I'll just link to the old thread:

Be warned, though, that this definitely increases the power of the Mount. It's not balanced as-is, because IMC I limited other Paladin abilities a bit. It was also designed as a system where Paladins weren't buying tons of magic items for their mounts just to keep them alive.
So you probably don't want to use it as-is, but it's basically a way to make mounts more modular.

Anyway, your mileage may vary.

summoning it for a certain amount of time kind of ruins the mount thing, but applying a celestial or half-celestial template for a certain amount of time per day sounds interesting.

Then again, how much time, and would the abilities or the time increase with level increase.

Just thought of something, mabye something like a holy barbarian rage, where the paladin turns into a half-celestial for a certain number of rounds equal to 4+the new CHA modifier or something like that, and with the increase in paladin level, an increase in times per day?

The character of mine that doesn't want the mount thinks this is a bit too short, but I dunno, any thoughts?
