paladin mount

Sounds like a neat idea to me.
The only trouble I could see would be keeping it in line wrt. hit dice. Half-Dragon template is +3ECL.

I would rule: Apply the template and count it as a mount of a Paladin of his level - 3.
That would mean that it would get it's first +2 HD and STR upgrade at his 8th level.

Hm. I'd make him take an Improved Mount feat and give his mount the Draconic (+1 LA) template.

Feats are so few and far between.

I'd rather use the Level -3 option (kinda like a druid's animal companion). If the paladin takes a Dragon Steed feat, he adds +3 to his effective paladin level for mount purposes (making effective paladin level = class level again).

I'm not too keen on Improved Familiar... Maybe use this mechanic for familiars, too? Hmmmmmm
