Remove Disease. Yeah right.

It's a fair cop.

On the bright side, the Blackguard 3.5 teaser suggests that the Paladin will get additional smites per day, so don't give up hope just yet.

I think the whole point of continuing paladin levels is for the mount. I'm willing to take Paladin 20 (or maybe just 15) just to get a mount and kick ass in it.

Dire Lion, Gryphon, Giant Spider, Celestial Dire Wolf, etc. Choose your weapon.

Otherwise, just get into templar or hospitaller or something. IMO, the Paladin is one of those classes that doesn't need a prC to kick arse (like the Monk, Cleric, Sohei and Druid)

Personally, I think Paladin should BE a Prestige Class (not core).

And IMC, it will be.

Actually, check out RPGnow... they have a nice book.pdf there with the paladin rewritten as prestige class.

Call of Duty is the name... there's a web preview with the prestige class if you don't wanna pay something.

I really like that... but IMHO the paladin is a bit on the high power side of the classes, so I'm careful.

(humour snipped)

Remove Disease. Yeah right.

This comment, among others, led me to come up with a few feats that allow a Paladin to swap out uses of Remove Disease for other spell effects. I would greatly appreciate any comments at this thread.

Thank you!

You'll need to design you're own. In the spirit of not getting something for nothing, you should consider what you are willing to give up, and what you'll emphasize.

Here are a couple of examples of what I mean.

A Paladin order that concentrates on mount progression and gets mount-related abilities as well as all Paladin advancement except spells. Perhaps they'd gain a bonus virtual feat related to mounted combat, and maybe bonuses to ride skill. Applying the celestial template to his existing mount might be one class feature. Perhaps he would also gain some benefit to charging while mounted - a single change of direction allowed in a charge, an additional multiplier to damage or something else. Also, I'd make this class unambiguously grant skill points and feats to the mount, and make it clear that the Natural Armor bonus is in addition to the mount's normal Natural Armor - that is, it improves the base Natural Armor score. Prerequisites could probably include having called a special mount and several mounted combat feats.

A Paladin order that focuses on being dismounted. Give up mount advancement, keep everything else and add some divine abilities - maybe an extra Smite or two and/or a free "Divine" feat from DotF. One of the prerequisites would be to have never called a special mount. Extra Turning might be a prerequisite (as it is needed for so many "Divine" feats and that's a lot of the direction of this class).

A Paladin order that focuses on spell-casting. Give up some other ability progression and get faster spell progression. Maybe even some 5th level spells at higher levels. Some of these spells could be new. And/or maybe an improvement to caster level (instead of 1/2 level). One of the prerequisites would be to have never called a special mount. Another might be having one metamagic or item creation feat.

I think it would have been funnier if you'd said:

DM: Here, Galahad the Chaste, another charge of Remove Disease!

Galahad the Chaste: Thanks, DM!

Hong "remember kids, use protection!" Ooi

There should have been a Web enhancement for Faiths & Pantheons.

*Please add this to the typical "paladin code of conduct" when playing a Paladin of Sune*

The Code of the Paladin of Sune

1. To encourage "Free Love"
2. To give free makeovers when ever needed
3. To give at least 24 total hours of community service at hair salons per year (maybe combined with point 4)
4. To give at least 1200 total hours of community service at STD clinics per year (maybe combined with point 3)
5. To make at least... 250 love oriented greeting cards, (or) 1000 chocolate dip cherries/strawberries/other, (or) 50 plus cuddly teddy bears ...per year (to be donated to the church of Sune or a local brothel)
6. To skip merrily whenever possible
7. To always wear lace, silk or satin under garments, & to encourage the wearing of lace, silk or satin under garments

You might want to check out the Justicar PC from "the Tomb of Abysthor." You can keep an already-summoned mount, but the mount only counts paladin levels for its progression. As an offset, you get a Celestial Falcon (familiar). The paladin continues to progress in caster levels, and s/he becomes an evil-slaying machine.

enjoy

I began looking for a decent PC for my paladin exactly for the same reasons. After 5th...then what?
